Verley E. Swygert (GRANITEVILLE, S.C.)

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - Completed life's journey and entered into rest on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, Mr. Verley E. Swygert, Sr., age 95, of Graniteville, S.C., husband of the late Thelma Lybrand Swygert and son of the late George W. Swygert and the late Cattie Caughman Swygert. He is survived by a son, Verley E. Swygert, Jr. and his wife, Marcia of Dunwoody, Ga.; a daughter, Sanda Swygert Stumpf and her husband, Charles of Harrisonburg, Va.; brothers, Melvin Swygert and Deward Swygert both of Leesville, S.C.; sisters, Nell Sue Hyler of Gilbert, S.C, Jane Langston and Martha Taylor both of Lexington, S.C.; four granddaughters and three great- granddaughters. He was born in Lexington, S.C. but has been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, S.C. for the past 77 years. He was a retired Textile Plant Manager with 47 years of continuous service. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Graniteville and served as Chairman of the Church Council for eight years. He was a lifetime member of the Graniteville Star Lodge No. 99 Constellation Chapter # 97 Eastern Star. He was a member of the Grand Lodge A.F.M. Masons for 64 years. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Graniteville with Rev. Barry T. Antley and Rev. Al Potter officiating. The interment will follow in the Graniteville Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, February 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Napier Funeral Home.
