Nellie Hunter (HAMPTON, S.C.)

HAMPTON, S.C. - Mrs. Nellie Nix Creech Hunter, 88, of Hampton died Friday evening, February 1, 2008 at the residence of her son in Charleston. Born Dec. 23, 1919 in Hampton, she was the daughter of the late Henry Nix and Maggie Polk Nix. Mrs. Hunter had been a beautician for 62 years and was the owner of Nellie's Beauty Shop in Hampton for 50 years. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Hampton First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for 40 years and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She had also attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC. She was the widow of William H. 'Bill' Creech, Sr. and C. P. 'Hoot' Hunter, Jr. She is survived by one son, William H. 'Billy' Creech, Jr. and wife Gina of Charleston; one granddaughter, Bridget Moody and husband Billy of Charleston; one grandson, William H. Creech, III of Goose Creek and two great-grandchildren, Joey and Angel Moody. There are two special friends, Joyce Owens and Ann Ramsey, both of Hampton. She was predeceased by her sister, Susie Nix. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 4, 2008 in the Hampton First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Terry Brown and Rev. Lewis McCormick and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton. Burial will follow in Johnson-St. Paul Cemetery in Hampton. Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 PM at the funeral home, located at 300 Mulberry Street, Hampton, SC 29924, and until 12 noon on Monday. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 PM prior to the service.
