Nona Jessie Annis (MARTINEZ, Ga.)

MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Nona Jessie Annis, 90, died on Sunday, December 30, in her home. Mrs. Annis was born on December 22, 1917 in McCallister, Kan. to Elah Corden Phillips and Nona Belle (Neal) Phillips. She married Walker Earl Annis on May 28, 1936 and the couple enjoyed 64 years of marriage prior to the passing of Mr. Annis on August 3, 2000. A homemaker, Mrs. Annis spent much of her life in Colorado, where she raised three daughters: Carol Connelly, Joan Babcock and Cynthia Annis. The family relocated to Martinez in 1985 in order to be closer to daughter, Cynthia, who attended the Medical College of Georgia. She enjoyed sewing, tending to her rose garden, and taking care of her three beloved cats. In addition to her daughters, Mrs. Annis is survived by three grandchildren, Michael Connelly, Longview, Texas, Melissa Connelly, Athens, Ga., Tami Hale, Colorado; a great-grandson, Cody Babcock, Savannah, Ga. and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Annis held membership in the order of the Easter Star and the PEO Sisterhood for 69 years and was an active member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Annis will be entombed at Bellevue Memorial Gardens alongside her husband. The memorial service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
