AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Harold 'Hal' Knippenberg, 77, beloved husband of Mrs. Ruth Knippenberg, of Blueberry Dr., went home to our Lord on December 29, 2007 at their residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors this Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Marty Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. A native of Cleveland, OH, and a graduate of the University of Georgia, Hal was a civil service employee from the Southeastern Signal School at Fort Gordon. Hal dedicated his life to his family, his work and his music. After retirement, he spent his time teaching at Southern Illinois University, teaching classes for AARP, and teaching computer skills through the Richmond Co. public library system. His love for music led him to a music ministry with family and friends that blessed many nursing homes in the area, as well as Gracewood State School and Hospital. He was a member of the National MENSA Society and attended Stevens Creek Community Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, William Knippenberg with wife Charlene; daughters Nola Belger and Linda Gordon with husband Bob; grandchildren include, Dr. Todd Knippenberg, Sara Rumph with husband Brandon, Emily Williford with husband Blake, and Trey Gordon; great grandchildren, Caleb and Gabe Rumph. Pallbearers will be Bill Coss, Buddy Woehler, Wayne McGaha, Billy Dixon, Mike Rabun and Allen Russell. Memorials may be made to the Children's Ministies of Stevens Creek Community Church, 600 Stevens Creek Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
