George Walter Hill (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - George Walter Hill, age 76, of Augusta, Ga., died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the Medical College of Georgia. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Poteet Funeral Homes South Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Bishop Kenneth Jackubov officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by Shaw Air Force Base. Mr. Hill was a born in Mercer County, New Jersey. He had lived in Augusta since 1972. Mr. Hill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant with twenty three years of service, including the Korean War and Vietnam War and also served three tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Hill was employed with DSM Chemical as an operator. Family members include his wife, Mattie A. Hill of Augusta; five children, David Hill of South Carolina, Susan Hill of Augusta, Barbara Ellen Hill Crawford and her husband Vance of Flowery Branch, Ga., Spencer Jason Hill and his wife Melanie of Hephzibah, Ga., and Leah M. Hill and her husband Brett of Augusta; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, George Lewis Hill and Ella Mae Udy Hill; and his daughter, Margaret Hill in 1979.
