Carla Thaxton Brown (RAYLE, Ga.)

RAYLE, Ga. - Carla Elizabeth Thaxton Brown, 33, passed away December 3, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with liver disease. She was within twelve hours of receiving a transplant at the time of her death. A Celebration of her life will be Saturday, December 8, 2007, at 1:00 PM at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Kent Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Thaxton-Wynne Cemetery, Rayle. Born August 28, 1974, Carla will be remembered as a beloved wife, daughter, sister and friend to all. She was a 1992 graduate of Athens Christian High School, where she was a solo twirler and drill team captain. She was recognized by Who's Who Among America's High School Students. In 1998, she graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in Agricultural Communication and a minor in Animal Science. During this time, she was an active member of Student Government, Block and Bridle, where she served on the Rodeo Committee, Brase Gavel, Alpha Phi Omega and AGHON Honor Society. She served as a 4-H Youth Leader and received the I Dare You Award, and participated with her husband as an assistant leader in BSA Troop 777. Carla was blessed with a beautiful singing talent and touched many lives with her music. She performed at many weddings and funerals as well as the Athens Creative Theater, Athens Town and Gown, Arts Oglethorpe, Washington Little Theater, and taught drama camp for the Morton Theater in Athens. Carla was also a leader of The Praise Team at St. James United Methodist Church, where she was an active member and volunteered at the Homeless Shelter while it was located there. She was a former member of Countyline Baptist Church in Rayle, GA, where she taught Sunday School earlier in her life. Carla participated in several mission trips including those to Bowery, NY, New Orleans, LA, the Andes Mountains in Peru, and Paris, France. She was a member of the Kettle Creek Daughters of the American Revolution and the Oglethorpe Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Two of the joys of her life were operating her wedding service business "A Blissful Day" and partnering with her father at Breezy Acres Cattle Farm. Survivors include her husband, William Brooks Brown, married January 18, 2003; parents, Tommy and Fran Thaxton of Rayle; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Bob Welch of Rayle; nieces and nephews, Bobby, Joshua, Tabatha Welch; uncle and aunt, Lee and Beth Thaxton of Rayle; cousin, Jason and Libby Thaxton and their children, Heather, Ethan, and Audrey; cousin, Elise and Scott Kusiak of Athens and their children, Zachary, Reagan and Jackson. She was a granddaughter of Pearl Thaxton of Rayle and the late Robert Thaxton, and Mamie Cason of Rayle and Jackson Arnold Biggers of Covington. Other survivors include her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed A. And Karen Brown of Colbert; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vicki and Steve Buschbom of Marietta; brother-in-law, Ed F. Brown of Carlsbad, CA; cousins, Jo and Martin Seeger of Nashville, TN, Jean and John Barney of Augusta, GA and their children, Wes and Bonnie Wyatt, and Sarah Barney, John Horky of Tulsa, OK and his children, James and Anna Horky, Jim and Alice Horky and their children, Jimmy and Amanda Horky, Jan and Lenny Andrews and their children, Juno, Justin, and Dorian. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
