GROVETOWN, Ga. - George Frank Curtis, Jr. was called home to be with Jesus Thursday, November 29, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Betty Icenhour Curtis. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dickenson and his parents, George F. Curtis, Sr. and Annie Martin Wise. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at Morningside Baptist Church, 1825 Kissingbower Rd., Augusta with Rev. Wally Hoyle and Rev. Kevin Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Harlem Cemetery. Bill Weir, Steve Carpenter, Rick Milton, Gene Wolfe, Bob Mason, George Tuten, Dennis Atkins, Jay Powell, and Jessie Powell, Sr. will serve as pallbearers. Employees of the Augusta/Richmond County Fire Department and also Donnie Wren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Sgt. Curtis lived in the area all his life. He had worked for the Augusta/Richmond County Fire Department for almost 25 years. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church for over 35 years, serving as Sunday School Director and was very active in his church community. He was a CPR instructor. In addition to his wife, Betty Icenhour Curtis, he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Jonathon) Sheets, Aiken, South Carolina and Mandie (Troy) Widener, North Augusta, South Carolina; grandchildren, Mikayla Hope Powell and Landon Carter Sheets; sisters, Patsy (Rusty) Gordon, Martinez, Derry (Tony) Tipton, Beech Island, South Carolina, and Claudean Curtis, Martinez; brother, Mickey Shirley, Augusta; mother-in-law, Mildred Louise Icenhour, Grovetown; brothers and sisters- in-law, David Allen (Dot) Icenhour, Clearwater, South Carolina, Dwight D. Icenhour, Grovetown, Marian (Jerry) Kitchens, Augusta, and Sharon Krentler, Grovetown; and several nieces and nephews.
