Calvin M. Polatty (EVANS, Ga.)

EVANS, Ga. - Calvin Mills Polatty, beloved husband of Lavinia Townes Polatty, entered into rest on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Polatty was a graduate of Evans High School and attended the University of Georgia. He retired in 1988 from Continental Can Company in Augusta after 26 years of service. He was a member of Warren Baptist Church and the Snyder Sunday School Class. An avid golfer, he cherished his friendships and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. However, the main love of his life was that of his wife, children, and grandchildren. Survivors also include two sons, Michael D. (Linda) Polatty and C. Mills (Leslie) Polatty, Jr. both of Evans; a daughter, Anna Kim (Larry) Fletcher of Augusta; and five grandchildren, Lance and Hunter Polatty, Anna Kelley and Caroline Polatty, and Will Fletcher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lilly Polatty; two brothers, William E. Polatty and George J. Polatty; and a sister, Mary June Blanchard. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach and Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Pallbearers will be Grady Blanchard, Lewis Blanchard, Jim Blanchard, Joe Blanchard, Will Polatty, and Christian Wahol. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Fleming, Lewis Muns, Charles Smalley, Buddy Gardner, and members of the Snyder Sunday School Class and McDonald's Coffee Club. A private burial will be held afterwards at the Evans Baptist Church Cemetery. If so desired, memorials may be made to the Chapel Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 14489, Augusta, Ga. 30919 or the Building Fund of Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30907.
