Billy Wayne Sipes (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Billy Wayne Sipes, 70, affectionately known as "Opa," beloved husband of Mrs. Dee Deaton Sipes, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1 at his home in Augusta. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta and officiated by Mr. Sipes' son-in- law and grandson, Rev. Ron Harvey and Chris Harvey. He is survived by his two daughters, Renee Harvey and husband Ron and sister Cindy Jeffers; four grandchildren, Amanda Moreland, Chris Harvey, Cory Rutland, Shannon Rutland; one great-grandchild, Ayden Moreland; brother, Frank Sipes; sister, Betty Pierce; numerous nieces and nephews; two stepsons, Kelvin and Chris Deaton, who have been caregivers during Mr. Sipes' last days. Mr. Sipes was born in High Point, N.C., where he became an avid golfer. When he came to Augusta, he became friends of former Superintendent of Greens of Augusta National Phil Wahl, where he would play on numerous occasions. He and Phil and several friends would fish and frog giggin' on # 16. Sipes, well known in Augusta for the past 50 years, owned several dinner and night clubs, to include the Partridge Inn Lounge on Walton Way. He also owned several automotive dealerships, security businesses, retail paint stores, and he managed various other business ventures. His greatest joy and past time was spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a very creative designer of fish ponds in his spare time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Trinity Hospice.
