AUGUSTA, Ga. - Susan Flynn LaHatte, having lived a long and fulfilling life, entered into rest on November 14, 2007, at the age of 83. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, tomorrow Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 11 a.m., at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with The Reverend Gerald Ragan as celebrant. Susan's burial will be in Cocoa, FL. The family will welcome friends for a visitation, this evening Friday, November 16, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Platt's Crawford Avenue, with the vigil for the deceased to be held at 6:00 p.m. Susan was a fun loving Mom and wife with a strong faith. She was born Susanne Margaret Flynn on November 23, 1924 and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended Barry College in Miami, FL, where she met and then married Joseph Fitzgerald LaHatte from Atlanta, Georgia in 1945. They lived briefly in Seattle during WWII and then started their family in Detroit. Sue and Joe had two daughters and five sons. Six of the children were born in Michigan and the last son was born in Columbus, GA. They spent 5 years in Columbus as active parishioners of Holy Family, and then St. Anne's and were big supporters of St. Anne's and Pacelli Catholic Schools, where their older children went. They then moved to Augusta and lived for six years attending St. Mary's Catholic Church with the children attending St. Mary's and Aquinas Catholic Schools, before settling in Satellite Beach, Florida, where they attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. There they raised their youngest two sons. Susan's faithful and loving husband, Joe, died in 1986 and Susan moved back to Augusta. She is survived by her sister, Judith Rasmussen, Dunwoody, GA, and brother, Peter Flynn, Des Moines, IA and by her seven children, all of whom received college degrees, including two nurses, a lawyer, an educator, a doctor, and two in business and finance. They are Mary Ann Morgan, Columbus, GA (grandchildren, George, Michelle, Matthew, Michael, Sara, Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Emily, John, Jacob, Cody, Reese, Carson, Zoee, and Brooklyn), Susan LaHatte McMahon, married to Pat McMahon, Augusta, GA (grandchildren, Patrick, Molly, Katie, and Anne; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Ella, Jack, and Tristan ), Joseph LaHatte, Jr., married to Jonnie Miller LaHatte, Metairie, LA (grandchildren, Joey, Jonathan, and Jason); Gregory LaHatte, married to Margaret McDowell LaHatte, Duluth, GA (grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristin, Mary Beth, and Courtney), Peter LaHatte, married to Rosa Figuero LaHatte, Sugar Hill, GA (grandchildren, Michael, Alicia; great-grandchild, Katelyn), Lawrence LaHatte, married to Debbie Nevins LaHatte, Augusta, GA (grandchildren, Grayson, Benjamin, and Meghan), and Gerard (Dino) LaHatte, married to Carolyn Hogarth LaHatte, Roswell, GA (grandchildren, Timothy, Jason, and Ellen). Susan's love for life and all its fun was certainly passed on to her 7 children, 25 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, who love to spend time with each other's families.
