William Jones (CLAYTON, Ga.)

CLAYTON, Ga. - Mr. William Millard "Dub" Jones, Jr., age 75, of Clayton, went home to the Lord Tuesday, November 6, 2007. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Saranne Robertson Jones. Dub served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1957. Dub and Anne lived with their family in his hometown Gainesville, Ga. where he began a successful career with Ralston Purina. He retired from the corporate world in 1988 and moved with his wife to the South Carolina coast. During his life he gave back to his community through his commitments to Junior Achievement, Boy's Club of America, various guilds including music and the arts. In addition, he had a great passion for politics and served diligently through involvement with the GOP and as a member of the Georgia State Committee for Industry, Trade and Tourism. Most recently he was a founding member of the Mountain Heritage Bank in Clayton. Dub was a Christian and active member of Clayton First United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sons, Steven Millard Jones of Charleston, S.C., Scott Robertson Jones of Greenville, S.C., William Clay Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Rebecca Anne Jones Ferraro of Augusta, Deborah Jane Jones of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, Willene Grant of Elberton, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jacob Robert Wagner of Augusta, Ga., Eli James Wagner, Eric Donald Wagner, both of Athens, Ga., Megan Allie Jones of Greenville, S.C.; three daughters-in-law, Catherine, Beverly and Kim; one son-in-law, David Ferraro and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Friday evening, November 9, 2007 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the Clayton United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Huddleston and Rev. Carol Cook officiating.
