H. Wilbur Harper (MACON, Ga.)

MACON, Ga. - Dr. H. Wilbur Harper, Jr., 74, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate. Rev. James Duke will officiate. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204, the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon 31204 or Stratford Academy, Booster Club, 6010 Peake Road, Macon 31220. Dr. Harper was born in Warrenton, Georgia and had lived in Macon since 1966. He attended Georgia Military College, was a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Harper was in general practice in Warrenton for five years and then went on to specialize in Anesthesia. He served as chief of Anesthesia at Charter Northside Hospital and retired from Middle Georgia Anesthesia Services in 1991. He was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiology, Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a member of Idle Hour Golf and Country Club, the Gridiron Society, and past member of the board of governors of Stratford Academy. Dr. Harper was the son of the late H. Wilbur Harper and Evelyn Pilcher Harper and was preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Ann Harper. Dr. Harper is survived by his wife, Joyce Hopkins Harper of Macon; son and daughter-in-law, H. W. "Hal" Harper, III and his wife, Nan of Macon; daughters and son-in-law, Fran Harper Stapleton of Macon, Jan Harper Cox and her husband, Fred of Reno, Nevada; grandchildren, Wil Harper, Sam Harper, Jack Harper, Bart Stapleton and Andrew Stapleton.
