J. Lester Thompson (CLEMSON, S.C.)

CLEMSON, S.C. - Funeral services for Mr. J. Lester Thompson, 86, of Clemson, SC, who entered into rest November 6, 2007, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Pendleton Presbyterian Church. Rev. Morton S. White officiating. Interment in Old Stone Church Cemetery with Veterans Honors. Mr. Thompson was a native of Jefferson County, Georgia, having lived in North Augusta and Aiken County until making Clemson his recent home. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aiken for 35 years and a member of the Pendleton Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Beech Island Agriculture Club and Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. Mr. Thompson was a 1942 graduate of Clemson University where he served as a Regimental Commander, received a Master's Degree from Georgia Tech, was a US Army Veteran of World War II and a retired executive with United Merchants and Manufacturers. He was the father of the late David Rhodes Thompson. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Rhodes Thompson; four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Nan Thompson, Jr., Fort Mill, SC, Dowling and Sharon Thompson, Union, SC, Wayne and Sally Thompson, Lake Hartwell, SC and Paul and Daphne Thompson, Tega Cay, SC; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Rick Thompson, John Michael Thompson, Will Thompson, Adam Thompson, Jordan Thompson and Kenny Carver. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
