Johnnie R. Green (GRANITEVILLE, S.C.)

GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - Entered into rest Sunday, night, November 4th, 2007, Mr. Johnnie R. Green, Sr., 68, of Graniteville, S.C., beloved husband of Mrs. Susie Davis Green and son of Lottie Sanders Green, Graniteville, S.C. and the late John Weathersbee Green. Born in Aiken, S.C. and a lifelong area resident, he was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Ridge Spring, S.C. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired after over twenty years of service as an E-7 (Sergeant First Class). For his service to his beloved country he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Mechanic Badge, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. For the last sixteen years he was a Food Service Supervisor at the Lower Savannah Pre-Release Center, Aiken, S.C. An avid motorcycle rider, he was a member of ABATE (Dixie Thunder and Palmetto Cruisers), was a Mason, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandson, Caleb. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by sons, Johnnie "Bobby" Green, Jr., North Augusta, S.C. and James W. Green, Warrenville, S.C.; daughters, Mary Sue Sirovatka, Charleston, S.C.-North Augusta, S.C. and Angela Rushton, Graniteville, S.C.; step-sons, Kenny Nix, Aiken, S.C., Tony Nix, Atlanta, Ga., and Tommy Nix, Aiken, S.C.; sister, Betty Thompson Jay, Graniteville, S.C.; brother, Clarence Edward Green, Graniteville, S.C.; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Mr. Green be made to the Palmetto Cruisers or Dixie Thunder. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, afternoon, November 7th, 2007 at 1 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, S.C. Rev. Keith Randall officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Nix, David Green, Todd Sirovatka, David Thompson, Patrick Taylor, and Ben Smith and members of the Palmetto Cruisers and Dixie Thunder.
