SHELBY, N.C. - Mrs. Lela Bell Washburn of Washburn Road, Shelby, NC, 78, born December 5, 1929, died September 14, 2007 in Aiken, S.C. A native of Bradley, South Carolina, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, WMU and a volunteer for the Double Springs Day Care. She served as a volunteer missionary to Zambia, Poland, Israel and many sites in the United States. She also was a Republican Party Poll Manager. Preceded in death by: deceased parents: Willard Buren McSwain and Millie Taylor McSwain; deceased brothers: Ernest McSwain and Phate McSwain; deceased sister: Hester Lovelace Justus. Survivors: spouse: Gaines B. Washburn , Shelby; daughters: Yvonne W. Nordeen and husband, Rex, New Ellenton, SC, Gloria W. Piquette and husband, John, North Augusta, SC, Annette Burnette and husband, Stephen , Barnwell, SC; son: Gabriel C. Washburn and wife, Cindy , Six Miles, SC; sister: Ruth Whisnant , Indiana; brother: Buren McSwain and wife, Minerva , Charlotte; grandchildren: Stacy Reinhardt, Christopher Nordeen and wife, Alicia, Keith Nordeen, Kelly Nordeen, Michael Piquette, Anne Myers and husband, Bryan, Aaron Washburn, Hannah Washburn, Delanie Washburn, David Burnette, Adrian Swain and husband, Charlie; great-grandchildren: Salina Reinhardt, Jozlyn K. Bennett, Galen Nordeen, Claire and Sophie Piquette, Rowan Meyers. Visitation will be held at Double Springs Baptist Church Sunday, September 16, 2007 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Double Springs Baptist Church Sunday, September 16, 2007 3:00 PM with Rev. Glenn Walker officiating. The burial will follow at Double Springs Baptist Church.
