Mary Jane Locklear (THOMSON, Ga.)

THOMSON, Ga. - Retired Probate Judge Mary Jane Richards Locklear died at her home in Thomson, on September 5, 2007, due to complications of Parkinson Disease. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jeff Pullium and Liza Marler officiating. A lifelong resident of McDuffie County, Judge Locklear was deputy clerk in the office of the McDuffie Clerk of Superior Court before being elected Probate Judge in 1972. She was an accountant for Darrell Johnson Chevrolet for 18 years and an extension coordinator for McDuffie County for the University of Georgia Extension Service. Judge Locklear attended McDuffie County School System graduating from Thomson High School. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Augusta Law School and a graduate of Probate Specialty School of the University of Nevada. Judge Locklear was a member of the Probate Judges Association of Georgia, the National Probate Judges Association, and the America Judicature Society. She was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church. She is survived by her three children, son, Bill and Doris Locklear, Statesboro, son, Frank and Kathy Locklear, Thomson, and daughter, Cyndie Locklear, Thomson; two grandsons, Jackson and Mason Locklear, Statesboro, and granddaughter, Jennah Locklear, Thomson; two brothers, Jack L. Richards, Augusta, and E.K. Richards, Thomson; and two sisters, Camilla R. Benson, Greer, S.C. and Frances Jordan, N. Augusta. Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home.
