CARROLLTON, Ga. - James A. Davaney, 86, of South Park St., Carrollton, passed away on July 1, 2007 after an extended illness. He was born on August 5, 1920 in Augusta, Ga., son of Aaron E. and Minnie Davaney. Mr. Davaney retired from Independent Life and Accident Ins. Co. as a Vice President in 1985 with 35 years of service. He was a member of the Life Underwriters Association for many years. He was a World War II Veteran serving as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater out of New Delhi, India. Mr. Davaney and his wife lived in Lumpkin and Hall Counties for numerous years after retirement. He was currently a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church, and previously Gainesville First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Davaney was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Hazel Allen Davaney, and his only son, James Robert Davaney. Mr. Davaney is survived by his devoted daughter, Joanne Davaney Jordan of Carrollton; three nieces, Muriel Allen of Loganville, Ga., Annie Ricketson of Augusta, Anne Calhoun of Martinez and five nephews: Bill Robertson of Augusta, Ronald Stanford of Jacksonville, Fla., Ted Stanford of Aiken, S.C., Eddie Devaney of Chapen, S.C. and Pat Devaney of Sullivan's Island, S.C. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6th at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville, Ga. with Dr. Phil DeMore and Rev. Melton McNeil officiating. Burial services followed at Memorial Park Cemetery.
