MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, May 27, 2007, Mrs. Mary Anna Chalker May, 82, wife of 62 years of Paul Ellis May, Sr. Mrs. May was a native of Gibson, Ga. and has resided in Augusta for the past 62 years. She attended Martha Berry College in Rome, Ga. She was a homemaker who loved her family and was a substitute teacher for numerous Richmond County schools, a secretary for the Academy of Richmond County High School and retired as school secretary for the Vocational Education Department of the Academy of Richmond County High School. While a secretary for the Vocational Education Department, she was chosen as member of the year for the Richmond County Association of Educational Office Personnel. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where she was a member of the French Bible Class and the Choir. Family members also include her daughter and son-in-law, Anna Marie and Tom Spain of Augusta; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Dr. Philip and Delaine May of Rome, Paul E., Jr. and Lori May of North Augusta, and their daughter, Jennifer and grandchildren, Caroline and Katie; brother, Billy Chalker of Gibson; sister, Mildred Gifford of Snellville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Varner and Dr. Philip May officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Chalker, Al Gifford, Dr. John Darden, Milton Chalker, Danny Glover, Michael Curley, Stan Brassell, and Ralph Gifford, Jr. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
