David Rountree (MILLEN, Ga.)

MILLEN, Ga. - Mr. David Edward Rountree, age 77, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at home following a lengthy battle with Leukemia. He was born in Mitchell County, veteran of the U.S. Navy, was the retired owner of Edenfield Feed and Seed, and a member of the Millen United Methodist Church, where he was a past president of the Methodist Men. Mr. Rountree was inducted into the Mitchell County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 being the first athlete in Mitchell County to be offered a scholarship to the University of Georgia in football. He was Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator for Buckhead Academy from 1972 to 1973. He was a former president of the Millen Lions Club, had served on the Jenkins County Hospital Authority where he later served as chairman and was a charter member of the Magnolia Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Jean Edenfield Rountree; two sons, David A. (Bubba) Rountree of Savannah and Tim E. (Remona) Rountree of Kennesaw; a daughter, Nancy (Stevie) Williams of Albany; four grandchildren, Stephanie W. (Heath) Fountain, Staci A. Williams, Andy N. Rountree, and Bess C. Rountree. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, at the Millen United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Millen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the 1972 Buckhead Academy Football Team and others.
