AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Viola Joyner Purvis, entered into rest, peacefully at home, on Wednesday February 21, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am today, Saturday February 24, 2007, at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Reverend Terry Doss officiating. Interment will follow, at Westview Cemetery. Mrs. Purvis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family and friends and they loved her. She was retired from Southern Bell after 35 years service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Warren Road Baptist Church and the Gleaner Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Hattie H. Joyner, a sister, Ethel Weeks and three brothers, Marvin Joyner, Billy Joyner and David Lee Joyner. Survivors include, her husband of 53 years, Bunny Purvis, Augusta, two daughters, Fran Purvis, Augusta, Cindy McBride and husband Richard, Evans, GA, two granddaughters, Kate Williams, Atlanta, GA, Julia McBride, Evans, GA, brother, Talmadge Joyner, Sardis, GA, three sisters, Jeanelle Bumgardner, Kings Mountain, NC, Maxine Scoggins and Martha Chester, both of Statesboro, GA and special friends, Beulah Byrd and Jackie Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on Friday February 23, 2007, at Platt's Crawford Avenue. Pallbearers will be, Clyde Wilson, John Joyner, Bert Pierce, Allen Flannegan, Junior Joyner and Tommy Hain. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
