Benjamin W. Burton (USMC, MSG E-8 AUGUSTA, Ga.)

USMC, MSG E-8 AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Benjamin W. Burton, Jr., MSG, E-8, USMC Ret., entered into rest on Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2007 at his residence. A native of Laurens, SC, he had been a resident of the Augusta area for most of his lifetime. Mr. Burton had retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 28 years of active duty. He was a Veteran of WW II, Korea and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Jack C. Fortune Post 205, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the D.A.V. Auxiliary. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and his longtime membership and involvement at Silvercrest Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Walden Burton; their daughter, Ellen Center and son in law, Ray, Augusta, GA; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 from the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, with Reverend James Bland, officiating.
