R.E. Rollins (WAYNESBORO, Ga.)

WAYNESBORO, Ga. - R. E. Rollins, Jr., 78, entered into rest on Monday, February 12, 2007, at Burke Medical Center. He was born on February 29, 1928 in Gough, GA to the late Rufus E. Rollins, Sr. and Daisy Coursey Rollins. He retired as the owner of Rollins Gulf Station for over 40 years, where he was known by all of the young children of Waynesboro for giving out bubble gum. He was an avid fisherman and was devoted to his family. Mr. Rollins was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Japanese Theater during WWII. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey L. Rollins. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Inez Sims Rollins; son, R. E. Rollins III (Wanda) of Evans, GA; daughter, Brenda R. Lively (K. O.) of Waynesboro; brother, J. P. Rollins, 2 sisters, Sara R. DeLaigle, and Pansy Burke, all of Waynesboro; 3 grandchildren, Jeff Rollins of Chattanooga, TN, Tara Syms of Waynesboro, and Michelle Fitzgerald of Martinez; 4 great-grandchildren, Paige Rollins, Connor Syms, Haley Fitzgerald, and Chloe Syms; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Nancy Luckey; and family friend, Tom Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2007, at Botsford Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Steve Rollins, Chris Rollins, Alan Rollins, Mike Burke, Hugh Burke, and Nick DeLaigle. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Scott, C. J. Waters, Bill Brinson, Fred Eskew, Dr. B. Lamar Murray, Gene Redd, Ernest Johnson, and "Beaver" Sapp. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
