Hildor V. Hanson (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Hildor Vernon Hanson, Jr. 85, beloved husband of the late Celeste White Hanson, entered into rest on Monday, February 5, 2007 at Heartland Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at National Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Steele officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. Masonic graveside services will be under the auspices of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge # 677, F.& A.M. and Military Honors by the U.S. Army. Mr. Hanson was a native of Merrill, Wisconsin, but called Augusta home for 58 years. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He retired from Georgia Power in 1986 after 36 years of service and he continued to work as a projectionist at various local Movie theatres. It started as a hobby in the 1950's, but became a full time job and was something he loved. A member of National Hills Baptist Church, he sang in the choir and was active in the Men's One Sunday School Class. Mr. Hanson was a Past Master of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge, serving faithfully as a Mason for 50 years. A member of the National Hills Lions Club and the Richmond County Committee for Good Government, he served on the Board of Directors, of both organizations. He was also a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the American Legion Post # 63 and the Georgia Power Ambassadors Club. Survivors include his two sons, Lawrence Vern Hanson (Catherine), of Augusta and Alan Dewey Hanson (Lisa), of Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Lisa Cashin, Elizabeth Holmes (Lee), Louise Hanson, Garrett Hanson, Catherine Armstrong (James), Christopher Hanson (Stacey), Jonathan Hanson and Christopher Hays; and five great grandchildren, Quinn Newhall, Graham Cashin, Mary Margaret Cashin, Hollis Holmes and Eliza Holmes. Pallbearers will be Richard E. Ramsey, Jr., W. Thomas Wells, John M. Wells, Benjamin T. Bush, Wayne Crawford, Charles P.Johnson and Daniel W. LaSure. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the National Hills Lions Club and the Richmond County Committee for Good Government.
