Lawmakers lobbied on possible lockout

Pro football players sought lawmakers' help Wednesday in preventing NFL owners from imposing a lockout after next season and said a league victory in a Supreme Court antitrust case could affect free agency and ticket prices.


"We want Congress to know that management is pushing us toward a lockout," said Kevin Mawae , the union president and one of about 30 current and former players who were on Capitol Hill.

Mawae said in an interview that he hopes Congress will exert its leverage over the league to help prevent a lockout, which players fear the owners plan to do following the 2010 season.

SEAHAWKS: Pete Carroll is adding coaches to his staff, including a few coming with him from Southern California.

Carroll said that Jeremy Bates will come from Southern Cal to be the offensive coordinator. Ken Norton Jr. will also join Carroll in Seattle and coach linebackers.

PANTHERS: Running back Jonathan Stewart is undergoing surgery on his troublesome left foot.

DOLPHINS: Beginning this week, the team's home stadium is Sun Life Stadium.

PRO BOWL: Tom Brady has pulled out of the game after a season in which he played with rib and finger injuries. He has been replaced by Matt Schaub.
