49ers interview ex-Falcons coach Reeves

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --- Former Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers open offensive coordinator position Friday.

Reeves met with 49ers coach Mike Singletary and general manager Scot McCloughan at the team's facility as San Francisco tries to fill the gap created in its coaching staff by Mike Martz 's firing Dec. 30.

Reeves was a head coach for 23 seasons in the NFL with Denver, the New York Giants and Atlanta. But he has been out of coaching since being replaced by Wade Phillips with three games left in the 2003 season with the Falcons.

Reeves, 65, had a 190-165-2 record as a head coach, making the postseason nine times and losing in all four trips he made to the Super Bowl. He led the Falcons to their only Super Bowl in 1999.

Earlier Friday, Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson also interviewed for the open coordinator job.

Singletary has interviewed former Boston College coach Jeff Jagodzinski , Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and Colts receivers coach Clyde Christensen for the job. Denver assistant Rick Dennison also interviewed, but he stayed on the Broncos' new coaching staff.

STEELERS: Tight end Jonathan Dekker was arrested early Saturday and charged with obstruction of justice.

Dekker, who injured his knee in August and spent the season on injured reserve, was released on $1,000 bond, police said.

Police said they responded to a complaint at 3:30 a.m. near Old Town Alexandria. When they arrived, police said, Dekker tried to flee but was apprehended.

Police did not provide details of the complaint. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 2.

JETS: Brian Schottenheimer is sticking around to run New York's offense despite losing out to Rex Ryan for the head coaching job.

Schottenheimer has been the Jets' offensive coordinator the past three seasons, but it was uncertain if he would stay after Ryan was hired Monday. After meeting with Ryan and owner Woody Johnson Thursday, Schottenheimer decided to return. The team is high on Schottenheimer, the son of former coach Marty Schottenheimer and consider him a top offensive mind.

Schottenheimer, 35, had a year remaining on his contract and reportedly received an extension.
