Titans hurt with Young on sideline

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Coach Jeff Fisher insists he was just enforcing the rules. He wasn't sending a message that no one, not even Vince Young, is above them.

Benching Young did prove how much the Titans need their quarterback on the field, not the sidelines.

With Young punished for missing curfew, the Titans struggled to move the ball in the exhibition opener against Washington.

The only good thing was a 6-0 lead that disappeared when the Redskins scored twice in the final 74 seconds to pull out a 14-6 victory Saturday night.

Fisher said Sunday that Young will start Friday night at New England but won't play any more snaps than previously planned.

JETS: Running back Thomas Jones remained sidelined a day after injuring his lower right leg in practice.

Jones walked with a slight limp and spent most of the morning session working on a hand bike and doing calisthenics. Jones' leg had a smaller wraparound it than the one he had on it after he was injured Sunday.

JAGUARS: Signed free agent safety Sammy Knight, adding a veteran to the team's mix of young players at that position.

The team also released safety Kevin McCadam.

EAGLES: Coach Andy Reid's son pleaded guilty to gun and drug charges stemming from a road-rage dispute.

Britt Reid, 22, pleaded guilty to a string of pending charges - including carrying a firearm without a license, a felony - as his trial was to start, prosecutors said.

They will seek six to 14 months of jail time, while the defense will seek probation.

Britt Reid's 24-year-old brother, Garrett, faces a mandatory minimum of three days in jail after pleading guilty last month to drug and traffic offenses.
