FAMILY: Mother, Irene Gore, and four sisters, Louise Lavin, Rhonda Price, Gail Gore and Frances Jacobs
OCCUPATION: Auxiliary operator at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions
HER STORY: Gore’s yearly check-up with her gynecologist and annual mammogram turned into an extra phone call from the doctor’s office. She needed another mammogram because something unusual was spotted.
Her doctor performed a small, pea-size biopsy followed by a lumpectomy and seven weeks of radiation.
Five years later, Gore, 56, is cancer free. She still schedules yearly check-ups with her oncologist and has yearly mammograms.
HER ADVICE: “Have faith with all your doctors,” Gore said. “Know that God will be there for you.”
