Breast cancer survivor and co-host of NBC’s the Today show, Hoda Kotb, will speak at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center. A silent auction of more than 90 items begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
“We’re here to raise awareness but we’re also here to celebrate survivors,” said Lisa Dorn, The Chronicle’s marketing director.
Some groups of women have attended the banquet for several years, Dorn said.
Proceeds from the night will benefit The Lydia Project, an organization that began in Augusta to support women with cancer but has now spread across the nation. The Lydia Project provides rent, utility and prescription assistance to women who are unable to afford the basic expenses of cancer treatment.
The Lydia Project Executive Director Michele Canchola said the banquet helps the organization continue growing to help more women.
“It brings awareness to those who have lost their battle and those who are in the battle,” Canchola said. “I’m looking forward to the community coming together for one cause.”
Items for auction include four tickets to Kicks 99’s Guitar Pull concert in Augusta, an E-Z-Go golf cart, jewelry, makeup and gift certificates to local restaurants.
