The Augusta Sports Council announced Tuesday that Ironman 70.3 Augusta will return for the next three years.

The dates for the next Ironman Augusta events are Sept. 23, 2018, Sept. 29, 2019, and Sept. 27, 2020.

Ironman 70.3 Augusta is currently the largest Ironman 70.3 in North America and second largest in the world, registering 3,750 athletes this year, according to the Augusta Sports Council. The event has sold out all nine years of its existence.

The triathlon is made up of a 1.2-mile swim through the Savannah River, 56-mile cycling route on Georgia and South Carolina roads, and a 13.1-mile run through downtown Augusta.

The professional men’s division returned this year and Jesse Thomas took first place with a course-record time Sunday. Sarah True claimed first among professional women.
