Army National Guard Pvt. Stephanie A. Fann has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is a 1996 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County.

Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Shai Gambrell has graduated from the Weather Forecaster Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. She is the daughter of Marian Shai and Deb Barshafsky and a 2007 graduate of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class James S. Harris has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is the son of Faye Smith and a 2012 graduate of Glenn Hills High School.

Air Force Airman Donovan J. Arrington has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is the son of Jacqueline Hogue and a 2012 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County.

Army Pvt. Jacqueline R. Sorto has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is the sister of Daniel Sorto-Lizama of Fort Gordon.

Army Warrant Officer Samuel A. Pearce has graduated from the Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Ala. He is an aviator assigned to Charlie Troop I/230th at McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Louisville, Tenn., and has served in the military for 10 years. He is the son Mick Lynn, of Augusta.

Jessica Charlene Cadena has earned a bachelor’s degree from Bethel University.

Recognized for community service

EmmaKate Few, 14, and Thomas Newell, 11, were recognized by Kohl’s Department Stores for their service to the community. They are among 69 youths who received $50 gift cards and a chance to win a $1,000 regional scholarship, which will be awarded in July. Ten national winners will also receive $10,000 in scholarships and $1,000 donated to a nonprofit on each national winner’s behalf.

Merit list

Emily Ding and Amala Sarvepalli were named to the merit list at Oxford College of Emory University for the spring 2013 semester.
