In the past five years, the Augusta mill has awarded more than $250,000 to area nonprofits and schools.
Grants are awarded in the focus areas of environmental education and literacy.
Nonprofits outside of the focus areas may be eligible if they have a volunteer who is a full-time employee of International Paper,
the employee requests funds for only one nonprofit per year, and
the organization is a 501(c)(3).

The application deadline is July 1. Funds will be distributed after Oct. 1.
Nominations called for
The Augusta Sports Council is accepting nominations for Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports Awards.
The G.A.M.E.S. Awards program highlights outstanding amateur athletes and coaches who represent
a broad spectrum of sports disciplines in the area.
Nominations will be accepted in the following categories: Adaptive Star, All-Around Athlete (male and female); Amateur Star (male and female); Collegiate Star (male and female); Outstanding Athlete (male and female); Outstanding Official; Outstanding Coach; Outstanding High School Team; and Rising Star (male and female).
Nominees must be
of high school age and be residents of Richmond, Columbia, Burke, McDuffie or Aiken counties.
Two scholarships will be also be awarded.

Take Aim at Violence
The third annual Take Aim at Violence Trap Shoot to benefit SafeHomes Inc., will be held April 20 at Pinetucky Gun Club.
Check-in will begin at 1 p.m., and shooting begins at 2 p.m.
Dinner and beverages will be provided.
Tickets are $70 per individual, $50 for military and service individuals and $40 for youth ages 12-17.
There will also be a raffle and awards.

Nestle USA plans local food drive
Nestle USA will hold a food drive to benefit Golden Harvest Food Bank Friday at Walmart on Washington Road in Evans.
Nonperishable food items will be collected between 8 a.m. and noon. Look for the Golden Harevest Food Bank truck.
The Senior Citizens Council is raffling a tank of gas worth up to $100.
