The Kiwanis Club of Augusta presented its annual Barret Award to William B. Kuhlke Jr. at its meeting March 11.
The award is named in honor of the club’s first president, George Barrett, and is given to the member whose deeds have most contributed to the community’s welfare. Kuhlke was honored for his service as a members of the Augusta-Richmond County Commission, chairman of the board of the Georgia Department of Transportation, president of the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, president of the YMCA of Augusta and president of the Augusta Country Club.
• Army Pvt. Jamill D. Ford has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is a 2008 graduate of Westside High School and the daughter of Siriwan Mobley.
• Army National Guard Pvt. Khaddijah N. Caldwell has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is the daugther of Angela Caldwell of Augusta and Oscar Caldwell of Aiken, and a 2012 graduate of T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School.
• Army Pvt. Michael J. Norris has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Richard and Virginia Norris and is a 2012 graduate of Westside High School.
Named to faculty
Augusta native Michael Dease has accepted a faculty position as an assistant professor of jazz trombone at Michigan State University.
Dease studied with Waynesboro native Wycliffe Gordon at The Julliard School and has been a regular lecuter at Northeastern University in Boston and an instructor at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York.
