The Miss Augusta Scholarship Pageant events will be held the next two weekends. The deadline for contestants to apply has passed.
The Miss Augusta/Miss Savannah River and Outstanding Teen pageants will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Greenbrier High School auditorium. Tickets are $15. These pageants are preliminaries to the Miss Georgia and Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen competitions being held in June. The other pageants – Wee, Miss, Tiny, Little, Pre-Teen, Jr. Teen and Teen Miss – will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Greenbrier.

District 5 breakfast
State Rep. Quincy Murphy, D-Augusta, and Augusta Commissioner Bill Locket and Richmond County school board member Patsy Scott will host the District 5 Neighborhood Quarterly Breakfast on Saturday.
The event takes place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Henry Brigham Community Center, 2456 Golden Camp Road.
Subway restaurants will offer free breakfasts from Monday through Feb. 4. Online reservations can be made at www.myfreebreakfast.com to try one of six Mornin’ Flatbreads and a cup of coffee for free.
Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., will hold an introductory reception at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 2651 Perimeter Parkway. The event is free.

Joe Lamp’l, a nationally known gardening and nature expert, will speak at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, as part of the Nola Falcone Speaker Series and Sacred Heart Garden Festival.
He writes a syndicated column and is host of Fresh from the Garden on DIY and GardenSMART on PBS.

The Watson-Brown Foundation Inc. is accepting scholarship applications for 2012-13 awards.
The foundation will award 200 scholarships to high school seniors and college undergraduate students. Scholarship awards are $3,000 or $5,000 per year for the student’s first four years of undergraduate studies.
