The board of directors of the Miss Augusta Scholarship Pageant is accepting applications for the 2012 Miss Augusta Scholarship Pageant, Miss Augusta Outstanding Teen, Miss Savannah River, Miss Savannah River Outstanding Teen, Wee, Miss, Tiny, Little, Pre-Teen, Jr. Teen and Teen Miss pageants. The deadline is Friday.

The Miss Augusta/Miss Savannah River and Outstanding Teen pageants will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Greenbrier High School auditorium. Tickets are $15. These pageants are preliminaries to the Miss Georgia and Miss Georgia Outstanding Teen competitions being held in June. The other pageants will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Greenbrier.

The second annual Dog Gone Cold 5k Run/Walk is set for Saturday at the Julian Smith Barbeque Pit, 3 Milledge Road.

There will be a 1-mile fun run at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5k run/walk at 10 a.m. Participants can bring their dogs. Proceeds benefit Hopeful Hounds Inc. and the American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue. For more information, contact Hopeful Hounds at (706) 294-6200 or, or visit

The Eta Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will host Zetas Against Drugs workshops for ages 9 and older.

The workshops will focus on fitness, music, the dangers of drugs and Internet safety. Food and door prizes will be available.

The free event is Saturday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 623 Crawford Ave. It begins with registration at 9 a.m. and ends with lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Friends of the Augusta Public Library will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the downtown library, 823 Telfair St.

Tuesday’s Music Live Inc. presents Augusta bass Isaac Holmes in a free concert at noon Tuesday.

Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., will hold an introductory reception at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the DoubleTree Hotel, 2651 Perimeter Parkway. The event is free.
