Fencing classes
Registration is open for a 10-week class in beginning foil fencing at Augusta Fencers Club, 134 Ninth St.
The class is for ages 14 and older and will meet from 6 to 6:50 p.m. Thursdays beginning today.
The cost is $150. All competitive equipment is provided.

Paws in the Park
A fundraising pet walk for the CSRA Humane Society will be Saturday at the society's pet shelter at 425 Wood St. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
There will be information booths, $12 T-shirts, a photo booth and pet microchipping by Dr. Beverly Slonina for $25. Reservations for microchips are recommended.
Bring your own dog or sign up to walk one of the dogs from the shelter.

Canal cleanup
Volunteers are needed for the semiannual cleanup along the Augusta Canal and Lake Olmstead from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Meet near the boat ramp at Lake Olmstead Park, 3 Milledge Road. Volunteers with canoes or kayaks are needed. Volunteers will be served a picnic lunch at the park after the cleanup.

ASU film series
The Augusta State University Spring 2010 Film Series will show Crude, not rated, a Spanish film with English subtitles, at 7 p.m. Monday.
The film series, which ends March 29, is held in University Hall 170, 2500 Walton Way.

Health seminar
Life After Stroke and Other Conditions: How Bioness Can Help will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walton Rehabilitation Health System Therapy Gym, 1355 Independence Drive.
During the free seminar, patients and families affected by stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders can learn about technologies that can help improve their ability to walk and their fine motor skills.

Teaching award
The CSRA Environmental Science Education Cooperative is accepting nominations through Thursday, April 1, for the CSRA Environmental Teacher of the Year Award.
If you know teachers who incorporates nature and earth stewardship into their teaching, you can nominate them.
The contest is open to all grades for public or private schools. Teachers may nominate themselves. Principals and administrators may nominate a teacher or teachers.

Strawberry sale
A strawberry sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2 at Brynwood Pharmacy on the corner of Walton Way Extension and Wheeler Road. Flats cost $15. The sale is sponsored by the Order of the Eastern Star.

Praise in streets
The annual Good Friday Crosswalk, held by the South Augusta Pastors Alliance, will begin at 10 a.m. April 2 in the Burns Methodist Church parking lot, 2372 Lumpkin Road.
The one-mile walk will lead to St. Joseph Catholic Church, with stops for praise and scripture reading.
