GOP gathering
The Richmond County Republican Committee will hold its monthly breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 2155 Gordon Highway.
The featured speaker will be Stephen Northington, a candidate for insurance commissioner of Georgia. Breakfast costs $8.

Teen violence
The South Augusta Teen Summit will present a program on teen violence and guns at noon Saturday at Gracewood Community Center, 1200 Tobacco Road.
Organizers ask that teens and parents from the Pepperidge, Ridge Forrest and Cambridge subdivisions attend. There will be speakers and refreshments.

Reaching survivors
The American Cancer Society is seeking breast cancer survivors as volunteers for its Reach to Recovery program. The next training session is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 27.
The program pairs newly diagnosed patients with trained cancer survivors who provide one-on-one emotional support. Volunteers must complete a training program, be a year or more past surgery and not currently undergoing treatment.

ASU film series
The Augusta State University Spring 2010 Film Series will show Ricky, not rated, a French film with English subtitles, at 7 p.m. Monday in University Hall 170, 2500 Walton Way.

Fencing classes
Registration is open for a 10-week class in beginning foil fencing at the Augusta Fencers Club, at 134 Ninth St.
The class is for ages 14 and older and will meet from 6 to 6:50 p.m. Thursdays beginning March 18.
The cost is $150. All competitive equipment is provided.

Canal cleanup
Volunteers are needed for the semiannual cleanup along the Augusta Canal and Lake Olmstead from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20.
Meet near the boat ramp at Lake Olmstead Park, 3 Milledge Road. Volunteers with canoes or kayaks are needed. Volunteers will be served a picnic lunch at the park after the cleanup.

Health seminar
Life After Stroke and Other Conditions: How Bioness Can Help will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the Walton Rehabilitation Health System Therapy Gym, 1355 Independence Drive.
During the free seminar, patients and families affected by stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders can learn about technologies that can help improve their ability to walk and their fine motor skills.

Teaching award
The CSRA Environmental Science Education Cooperative is accepting nominations through Thursday, April 1, for the CSRA Environmental Teacher of the Year Award.
If you know teachers who incorporates nature and earth stewardship into their teaching, you can nominate them.
The contest is open to all grades for public or private schools. Teachers may nominate themselves. Principals and administrators may nominate a teacher or teachers.
