Ramon Brown, a former T.W. Josey High School valedictorian and son of Ronnie Brown, has graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in finance from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee.

Canal donation

Village at Riverwatch, a lifestyle center under development in Augusta, recently presented a $250,000 check to the Augusta Canal Authority for improvements to the canal and beautification of the 15-acre authority property adjacent to the village.

Cadets commissioned

The Academy of Richmond County's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps commissioned 20 cadets to second lieutenant during a recent ceremony.

Web site honored

Butler High School's Web site was named the November Site of the Month by eChalk, an Internet company that works with high schools with electronic communications.

Chosen for ensemble

Larrie Reece, a 2006 graduate of Augusta Christian Schools and daughter of Larry and Trudy Reece, of Augusta, has been selected to sing in the Chamber Singers, an 11-voice choral ensemble at the University of Mobile, Ala.

Programs accredited

Easter Seals East Georgia has been accredited for a period of three years by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its programs of comprehensive vocational evaluation, employee development services, organizational employment services, employment skills training services, community employment services: job development and job-site training.

Named AP Scholars

The following students at Westminster Schools of Augusta have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their achievement on college-level advanced placement examinations:

Elizabeth Ames and Daniel Welsh, AP National Scholar; and Alice Chan, Alexander MacDonell, Michael Mecredy, Allison Moye, Thomas Norris and Evan Van Peursem, AP Scholar with Distinction.

Katherine Boone, Robert Long, Thomas Rogers and Catherine Stebbins, AP Scholar with Honor Award; and James Baunchalk, Tiffany Chan, William Garner, Daniel Harris, Christopher Hearon, Amy Littleton, Samantha Osteen, Sarah Smith, Melissa Walters and Mason Webb, AP Scholar Award.

Coats donated

The University of Phoenix's Augusta campus recently collected about 60 coats to be donated to a homeless shelter.

Apprenticeship

Bryan Davis, of Hephzibah, has been awarded a Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunity apprenticeship in accounting by the University of Georgia, Athens.

Check donation

UPS recently presented a $15,000 check to the MCG Children's Medical Center and the Kelsi Long Memorial Ride to benefit patient care. The annual motorcycle ride will take place in March.
