Clay lives in Emanuel County and was competing in his first year of eligibility against kids as old as the fourth grade.
Clay's mom, Jessica Smith, says she raised and showed pigs as a hobby when she was younger. She has now her son involved. "I showed pigs all through high school," she said, "so you just love doing it." Jessica says showing animals is great for kids because it builds confidence and teaches them responsibility through caring for an animal. "It's twice a day he's out in the pen feeding and watering, so it teaches a lot of responsibility."
