Comments from reader:

HERE IS A IDEA for our commissioners. Why don’t they just turn the Calhoun Expressway into the drag strip they want? That should give Harrisburg the economic boon they seek and all the idiots who try driving 100+ mph on Riverwatch can take the “drag strip” downtown in the mornings and stop endangering innocent lives every day.

I’VE LIVED IN KOREA, Colorado, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Atlanta, and this is the worst transit system I’ve ever used. You wouldn’t have so many DUI’s if you had a transit system that ran later than 8 p.m. Also that would help people in their search for employment in the area.

I’M FORCED TO RESPOND to the Democrat who wrote that Republicans are tax dodging narcissists. The vast majority of people belonging to both parties are hardworking taxpayers who are concerned for anyone less fortunate and consider themselves lucky to live in America. Unfortunately, there are imbeciles that like to generalize and disparage those with differing opinions. As I see it, there are far too many Americans who VOTE for a living, as opposed to WORK for a living.

A RANT: SHAME ON the person who insulted a lady while stopped at a traffic light near Target shopping area. Little did the rude person know, her 10-year-old was in the car and heard every cruel word said. People should be kind to others as one never knows what is going on in another’s life. This child will likely recall this experience for a long, long time.

THANK YOU, MR. CROSS, for yet another example of your continuing campaign to put unnecessary retail or commercial establishments on every single square inch of green space in Martinez. You are allowing a Wal-Mart grocery store within three-tenths of a mile of a Food Lion and within eight-tenths of a mile of a Bi-Lo. I bet they appreciate this move, too! Total waste of green space land.

WONDERING HOW THE
government justifies judges who are constantly changing laws made by citizens of states? These judges are not elected, they’re appointed. Isn’t it time somebody took a good hard look at that and tell them to go home?

A RANT FOR ALL the illegal aliens being brought across the Mexican border. They should be loaded up on C141s C5As and C17s and flown down there over Central America and dropped from 10,000 onto their own countries. That would put a stop to it.

Ranter #2- No, there wouldn't

Ranter #2- No, there wouldn't be so many DUI's if idiots wouldn't get drunk and then get behind the wheel of a car. Ever heard of TAXIS?

Ranter #4- Believe me, the child has already heard far worse at school.

Ranter #5- There is a Walmart Supercenter 4 miles away from my home, and there are 3 supermarkets also in that radius. It is fantastic, the supermarkets now run great specials and have ramped up their customer service. It has greatly improved shopping in my neighborhood. Competition is GOOD for consumers, and not everybody wants to shop at chain grocery stores.

Ranter #7- and I bet you call yourself a Christian, too? Thank God that other people don't think that way, you should be ashamed of yourself. Americans came from immigrants, and you probably have immigrant ancestors that others thought were "undesirable" at one time, too.

Ranter #6- Unfortunately, we have incompetents in state legislatures and Congress that pass stupid, unconstitutional laws to make themselves look good- hence the judges that have to rule against them.

For example, that STUPID law that says people going the speed limit on a road can be ticketed in Georgia. That one will be struck down, too.

#6: Voting democrat

#6: Voting democrat guarantees liberal judges will be appointed, so if you vote dem, you ain't got no right to complain!

There are some judges that are elected. However, they never designate their political party because they are supposed to follow the law and not their political agenda. I totally disagree and feel there should be an "R" or a "D" since we now cannot count on judges properly enforcing the law and following the constitution without injecting their politics.

#3: I disagree with you about both parties paying taxes. The majority of taxpayers are middle class conservatives. If you look at the statistics you will see that the majority of those on the government dole pay no or very little taxes, and those folks are predominantly lefties.

Calhoun Expressway is a favorite spot for RC police to put a road block which, when strategically placed, cannot be avoided. I doubt they really want to do away with it.

In other words, a country full of people who have no skills, can't speak our language, are not educated, may have communicable diseases, send what little money they receive back to their home country (which certainly doesn't help our economy) receive our hard earned taxpayer money and have broken our laws by coming in illegally is what is going to become our newly transformed country and that's all right?

In case no one's noticed our academic ratings have fallen to a new low. We don't need menial laborers, we need scientists, engineers, medical and financial experts. HINT: They aren't south of the border. How many more people do you think we can take care of and still be solvent?

hoptoad, actually, the

hoptoad, actually, the immigrants do have skills. They also have a work ethic that is second to none. Many of the men are skilled craftsmen.

All of them have worked since they were tiny. In their countries, if they don't work, they don't eat. They are willing to do the jobs that Americans think are too "menial" for them.

As for the "communicable diseases", we already have plenty of Americans with those. Why aren't you worried about the Americans with communicable diseases? Looked at the hepatitis and HIV statistics lately? Looked at the venereal disease statistics recently?

hoptoad, I have Irish immigrants (who didn't speak English) and German immigrants (who didn't speak English) as some of my ancestors. And everything that you want to say about these current immigrants, were said about my ancestors, too. And they did just fine, and were prosperous and law-abiding people.

And the odds are overwhelming that you do, too.

The leaders of Augusta must focus on green space, walkability, and the transit system.. Local buses need to run from 6am to 1am(24 hr in the future).. The main goal involves connecting the population with the jobs.. The Medical District, Peach Orchard, CBD, Mike Padgett, Augusta Exchange, Fort Gordon, Wrightsboro, Peach Orchard, Gordon Hwy, Deans Bridge, and Washington road.. Tobacco rd in South Augusta(except for maybe the airport) can become the ending point..

The next splost needs to include funds to build the new multimodal transportation system in the CBD or between the CBD/Medical District. The city buses, GRU buses, Greyhound, light rail/modern street car, taxis, rental car service, etc can all use the facility.. Amtrak will finally come to Augusta, because of the new system.. GRU is expanding(MCG Foundation owns the bus barn) and they'll buy the Broad street terminal. Private developers will also be interested with the Broad street property, because of the GRU Gateway project next door. The city of Augusta sells property to create revenue and GRU helps improve the quality of life in Harrisburg..

Private companies and large employers will flock to Augusta in even greater numbers if the system were adequate... The small town mentality of Augusta is hurting the CSRA and we need more newcomers to help move this city forward..

People from larger cities will demand the best from Augusta..
1. Renovation of the Miller theater
2. Redevelopment of the Regency mall(large sports complex/recreation area, Augusta Tech expansion)
3. Sidewalks/bike lanes on the major roads
4. Green space on Washington road
5. Water park off I-520 in South Augusta
6. Urban park in the Augusta Exchange
7. Light rail/modern street car(Medical District, CBD)
8. Live music, street performers, food trucks, etc downtown
9.. Arts(Artspace, more events similar to Westobou and Arts in the Heart)
10. East Augusta Riverfront(new residential, recreation, etc)...

#4..

Get used to the double standards while living here in Augusta..

The part of Washington rd near Knights Inn is deteriorating into Wrightsboro rd according to one poster, because somebody hit a cop in the head and ran... The comment was pretty strange considering Daniel Village, Augusta mall, Kroger shopping center TJ Maxx, etc are on Wrightsboro rd.. The Augusta mall is the only property outside metro Atlanta in Georgia with Apple, PF Changs, Jared, H&M, Michael Kors, etc.. The $2.5 million professional/retail center is under construction in front of the mall and Bojangles is coming soon(old Mr. Furniture)..

The developer investing $40 million to build the Washington Crossing shopping center(Half-moon Outfitters, Jason's Deli, Home Goods) and opening the second Whole Foods outside metro Atlanta must be an figment of imagination.. The developers behind the Kroger expansion, PDQ restaurant, Cookout, Mednow facility, etc along Washington road obviously didn't get the memo either..

Other parts of Washington road in the CSRA had instances were somebody was robbed and shot this year(apartments in Evans near Target).. The Washington road part of Evans is located in Columbia County and were not allowed to say bad things about CC..

The comments are funny, because Martinez clearly has the worst part of Washington rd(Pleasant Home rd to Club Car) and nobody has ever mentioned the word deteriorating before..

i see a couple of misguided

i see a couple of misguided souls on this page do not know or do not care about the difference between immigrants being here illegally and those who are here legally. blind in one eye, can't see out of the other. comparing hepatitis, venereal disease and HIV to things such as tb, pertussis, diptheria, and polio is like comparing apples to oranges. one set of maladies comes mostly through poor personal choices; the other set come about through lack of immunization programs in these other countries that have no standards and care not one whit about pandemic, deadly diseases that can be spread by merely sneezing. saying the immigrants are the only ones who want to mow lawns, dig ditches and do housecleaning is another misguided misconception. the reason they are so prevalent here now is because of the people who hire and exploit them for the cheap labor. easier to get a job mowing a lawn when you only charge 5 bucks an hour as opposed to the guy who wants 10. i have no problem with any immigrant who wants to come here legally: get your tax ID number, learn enough english to do the day-to-day business you must do here, learn how to drive and read the road signs posted in english, get your proper immunization shots, and then i don't care how much money you send home to the mother land once your employer here has deducted the proper amount for our coffers. it's simple, plenty of people from all over this great big world manage to do this (yes, those forefathers from germany and other ports went through the proper process to get here, plus learned english on top of all that) and have managed to do this for the last umpteem years. why we are bending over and making such concessions for the hispanic population lately, heaven only knows.

People have the misconception

People have the misconception that all immigrants came through Ellis Island, and that is absolutely not true.

It was cheaper to go to Canada and come down through the border states, which many immigrants did. And Philadelphia, Boston, Charleston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago- those were all major immigrant ports.

Ellis Island wasn't even opened until 1892, and millions of immigrants came before that.

America is a country of Tax Dodgers

It has NOTHING TO DO WITH Political beliefs.

However with that said We have too many 2 face people trying get the middle class to point fingers at each other.

While some Wealthy & Ober wealthy Hollywood actors demand we pay more in taxes. It is surprising to find many of the most vocal use dual citizenship to hide their money. Some have even gone as far as maintaining a little farm in Ireland. Where Artists don't have to pay taxes.

While some allow the Government to donate other peoples money. Time after time, it has been shown Conservatives donate more of their OWN $$$$ to charities, than Liberals?
---------------
But let us compare 2 major political examples:

Kerry and Romney
They have a commonality and it is relatively low income tax rates.

Romney paid 13.9 percent
Kerry paid 13.1

Don't you wish you were rich enough to use the loop holes they have?
--------------------

Every American is a TAX DODGER in some way.

Remember any American can donate MORE TAX Money,
just don't take a Legal exemption.

BTW: In 1979 Ronald Reagan who opposed high government taxes, paid a whopping 44.8 percent in taxes on $515,000 in income.
But then again President Reagan was always better cut of fabric.

Newsflash!!

Radio station KFNS-FM (100.7 FM, “The Viper”) of Troy, Missouri is reporting on its Facebook page a bombshell of a claim:

***BREAKING NEWS***
Remember, you saw it and heard it here first. We have heard (from a VERY connected national media source) that Ferguson officer Darren Wilson will be cleared in the shooting of Michael Brown. The key: Dorian Johnson has now admitted that Michael Brown attacked Officer Wilson and attempted to take his gun. OFFICER WILSON WILL NOT BE CHARGED! This is scary. When this news is made official, we all have reason to be concerned about the reaction.

If KFNS-FM’s claim that primary witness Dorian Johnson has admitted that Michael Brown turned and charged Officer Darren Wilson turns out to be accurate, it strongly suggests that Officer Darren Wilson be exonerated, and that his shooting of Michael Brown will be found to have been in self-defense.

The claim comes on the day after a night of protests in which 47 people were arrested and three loaded handguns were recovered.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

They will squeeze the truth outta him soon.

Heh

Heh, heh, heh. The green out my backdoor on the golf course does look a little unkempt since I moved in. But I'm trying to get used to living with these wealthy folks. They make me hide my pick-up truck and hire Pedro to keep my yard up to standards. Another funny thing I noticed is NO ONE grills out. People just don't go out back to grill, etc. When I lived on the river I was grilling almost every night because it gave me an excuse to drink beer.
