The Way We Were: Washington Road

Washington Road

Guess where?

You are looking down on an almost pastoral setting showing Washington Road and a then-new Interstate-20 interchange.

The time stamp on the back of this aerial photo says 1968, and it was taken to show construction of the new J.M. Fields store and shopping center.

At the top you can see Claussen Road. Along Washington Road, a lone store is open for future interstate travelers.

Forty-five years later, construction has returned to that once peaceful pasture, and a few more cars and many, many stores and businesses would fill the photo.

Do you remember?

Parking lots have replaced trees, and fast-food franchises have replaced the country houses.

But do you remember when Washington Road looked like this?
