Comments from readers:

LET ME ASK WHY someone would not want a new stadium for the GreenJackets? I mean, this is probably one of the last chances to revitalize downtown. We’ve lost Fort Discovery and the Shoppes at Port Royal. And if they do not build it, the GreenJackets will go somewhere else. Columbia, Macon, Columbus all desire a baseball team. Let’s just go ahead and build the stadium and not lose a baseball team!

WILL SOMEONE IN Columbia County government please remove all the tape and flags and partial posters advertising yard sales on the street signs? This is all over the county and looks so bad. You folks who put them up should be ashamed.

PRESSURE IS NOW coming from all sources for Israel to stop the bombing. I am sorry to see that since Israel is not the bad guy. It’s time that the world sees Hamas as the culprit and should be applying pressure on them to cease bombing. Unfortunately Hamas does not care that so many people are getting killed.

IT’S TIME TO SAY no to any further toxic waste being dumped at SRS. The dumping of German nuclear waste should not be allowed to happen. It’s going to take all of the resources that presently exist at SRS to clean up the mess that still exists from our own nuclear programs.

WHEN IS THIS going to stop? Lakeesha Epps is one of the latest to act irresponsibly by leaving her three small children unattended in a car while “shopping” at a store. What makes matters worse is that she was accused of shoplifting while she was in the store.

RANT FOR OBAMA’S critics. According to Politifact, Obama has taken fewer vacation days compared to George W. Bush at the same time in his presidency.

THERE WAS HALF A page yesterday in sports about Tiger Woods and today about the same even though he had used vile and offensive language at the British Open because someone dared to move or even breathe when he was shooting!

RANT FOR THE Columbia County Commission. I find it difficult to believe that a county as progressive as Columbia County does not have a veterinarian on staff at animal control. This is unthinkable. The county commission needs to address this problem right away. Vets could volunteer services in the interim.

i think it's a tad late for augusta to build a new stadium, are you serious ranter?columbia is in the same mess n augusta is,they are going to build a new stadium without a voter referendum.the people don't want it,and have said so.it garners very little interest and revenue.should it go bust, the taxpayers pay for it.when the people in the gaza strip stand up and remove hamas physically instead of crying over dead innocent people daily, then will there be peace.obama takes very few vacations.also, it only takes a few hrs to play golf.bush visited crawford 77 times in his useless terms, and loved those 31 day vacations as did reagan.no one seems to remember that bush also took his first 31 day vacation in aug of 01 7 months after taking office.how many readers can do that?

1... The Fort Discovery property belongs to a private developer and downtown is already being revitalized(Sprint Food Metro Market, Sole, Craft & Vine, Augusta Lung Associates, Holiday Inn Express, Sabre Systems, Brown Bag Cafe, Wet Willie's, etc)..

The former Churchs Chicken building on Washington road is now under contract... Hopefully they'll demolish and rebuild similar to the restaurant coming to the Augusta Exchange(Twin Peaks moving into Sticky Fingers property).. The Washington road corridor of West Augusta continues to boom and the city must jump on the bandwagon... The private growth in the area is remarkable, but the government must begin to concentrate on the landscaping, new urbanism, mixed-use developments, sidewalks, green space, and bike paths.. The city of Augusta should create a green space/park setting between Friedman's and National Hills Baptist Church.. The landscaping along Washington road should resemble nearby Alexander road or Wheeler road in the Augusta Exchange area... The main objective involves running away from the typical, dull, and boring suburban architecture found in suburbs across the US..

Washington road growth:
1. $40 million Washington Crossing(Whole Foods, Home Goods, Jason's Deli, Half-Moon Outfitters, etc)
2. MedNow opening new building at 2851 Washington road
3. Cookout replacing Crazy Turks(CT is looking at space downtown)
4. 9,000 sq. ft. development at 2817 & 2819 Washington road
5. PDQ restaurant at 2999 Washington rd(former Circle K)
6. Infiniti of Augusta at 3315 Washington road
7. Captain's D demolished/rebuilt at 3029 Washington road
8. Hampton Inn & Suites hotel(replacing existing Hampton Inn) at 3032 Washington road
9. Master's Inn hotel becoming two properties(one property is being renovated and the other demolished/new hotel)

CSRA

The entire CSRA is growing and I'm happy to see people using the information that I've reported before.. The Bridgestone plant is located in Graniteville.. 400 of the 600 Medac jobs already exist in West Augusta...

Hopefully the growth in North Augusta will bring some national retailers and sit-down restaurants.. The exit 5 area of North Augusta should be able to attract national chain restaurants..

This woman has had the practice of anything & everything.....DeKalb county has been on the chopping block for years.....many teachers have left & the rating has been in the tank.......Richmond county can't show her anything she hasn't gone through already.....I mean this...

Give the woman a chance...imo she is EXACTLY what the county needs.

Sarah Brady acted out of emontion frustration

She was infuriated and looking for a pound of flesh.
She incorrectly took on the gun owner representatives efforts to protect our gun rights from increasing useless laws.

She picked up the phone, called the headquarters of the National Rifle Association, and delivered this message:

“My name is Sarah Brady, and you’ve never heard of me, but I am going to make it my life’s ambition to try to put you all out of business.”

An so started a misdirected crusade that earned her $million$ and lots of media attention wheeling her permanently disabled husband around from event to event.

While I find it terrible that Mr. Brady was inadvertently shot by a mentally unstable person. Is that reason to inflect even greater difficulty in legal ownership, for other 210 million Adult Americans that responsibly own and handle firearms?

It has been proven time and time again.

CRIMINALS by their very definition,

      Do Not Obey Laws.

So any Gun Control Law only has a extremely negligible impact
on Criminals, while extremely increasing the cost and ability of Ownership for "Law abiding Citizens".

Instead of inflecting greater problems on the 99.99% of
responsible firearm owners in America, maybe it is time to start
a 10 year mandatory HARD LABOR camp for the convicted Felony
Armed Robbery criminals. Get them off and keep them off the
streets and leave the rest of Law Abiding America alone?

She should have spent some time trying to create the mental hospitals that so many of these shooters need...that, is the main problem.

Gun laws won't work...proof galore in Chicago

Gun Control is WHY Chicago Murder Rates Are Skyrocketing Chicago finished out 2012 with a bang, as it passed a major milestone hitting over 500 murders. Chicago has started off 2013 on the wrong foot, with this past week’s murder rate outpacing 2012’s. In the wake of Sandy Hook, many people have called for increased gun control. While they have mostly targeted so called “assault weapons,” proponents of gun control have also sought to further limit handguns. Chicago has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Illinois remains the only state in the country where nobody can legally carry a concealed weapon, and lawmakers recently introduced measures to restrict legal gun ownership even more.

What in the world are you talking about?

Countyman posted:

Excuse me, but the property you are talking about is privately owned and is fully developed. Are you suggesting that taxpayers buy some of the most expensive commercial land in Augusta and make a grassy field? We already have several acres of grassy field along Berckmans Road courtesy of the Augusta National Golf Club.

Chicago - Gun Laws

Years ago, while working with the Fed Gov at Scott AFB and living on the edge of East St. Louis I quickly saw the need for a Illinois firearm permit. In Illinois at the time you have to have permit just to have your weapon in the car UNLOADED. An the pistol in the trunk and the ammo separated from it.

So I got myself Finger Printed, Background Checked on top of my TS SCI with Full Background, for the Illinois State Patrol - Firearms Owners ID card. Waited 8+ weeks and got.

The very 1st thing I was told..... it wasn't valid in Chicago.

2nd was you can't renew more than 30 before expiration, so You'll always be be 30 days without coverage.

I must confess, I was at the British Open , and at an inoppertune moment, as the crowd got quite, I let one loose. The problem was I did not anticipate the crowd noise to die so quickly. I apologize to the crowd, but not Tiger, giving the opportunity I would do it again. Those Irish pints will do it to you.

Folks on the serious side, have a great day and be blessed in all that you do

This never stops...never

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta police Tuesday morning were looking for the two men who beat a woman overnight in the parking lot of Phipps Plaza and stole her car.

According to a police incident report, the victim was leaving the Twist Restaurant & Tapas Bar at the Peachtree Road mall just before midnight when she was assaulted by two men in their 20s as she approached her BMW.

The victim and witnesses told police that the men demanded her vehicle, “yelling, ‘Give us your f——— car,’ and ‘Give us your keys or I will f——— shoot you,’ as they were beating her to the ground,” the report states.

The woman told police that after beating her for about two minutes, the suspects took her keys and her purse and drove off in her car.

Police said the victim sustained “severe bruising as well as swelling and lacerations to her face.” She was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.

The stolen car is a silver 2007 BMW 5 Series with Georgia tag BLA 8978.

South Augusta & CBD

Harley 52... Five Guys is a major national brand and the company is obviously waiting on something..

CBBP... The Spring Creek Village and Fort Gordon Place are both under construction.. There's middle class families moving into South Augusta.. Major companies don't invest millions into areas that can't offer anything.. Nobody is going to build an outlet mall in the Regency Mall complex, but the city should buy the mall.. Letting Augusta Tech expand on the property and creating the sports complex is the best idea.. The sports complex would be able to support regional and national tournaments..

CBD..... The CanalSide development was approved on yesterday... The new construction will help attract new retailers/restaurants and residential developments(Lofts at Marbury Village at 1232 Ellis street)..
1. $11 million project
2. 4 story building
3. 1399 Walton Way between the Medical District and CBD

Under Utilized Bldg...Play Basketball In It

About making Regency a sports facility big enough to host big events, it seems that when Augusta has a large public building under utilized they start to play basketball in it. Remember the TEE Center basketball tournament this summer? I used to joke about them playing B-ball in the place, but I'll be danged if it isn't true.
