August is getting close, but we still need postcards from three states to get all 50. That would be Nebraska, Delaware and New Jersey.

Send them to me at the newspaper, 725 Broad St., Augusta, GA 30901. Operators are sitting by.

The latest batch.

Things started off well for Bill and Trudy Wood, of Hephzibah. “We are spending the weekend in the north Georgia and western North Carolina mountains in celebration of Trudy’s birthday and our 56th wedding anniversary … Beautiful weather ... ”

But that was followed by this: “Spoke too soon about the ‘beautiful’ weather. Raining and has been raining for two days, non-stop.”

Jack Maffett, our veteran traveler from Sandersville, sends three more post cards from this summer’s trip in which he seems to be searching for collectible duck decoys.

“Some interesting places,” he said of Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee.

Lynn, Sue and Diane spent their annual Sisters Week on the coast of Maine and shared two postcards from their travels.

Corky and Debbie Holloway, of Evans, had a great time in Daytona Beach, where they also celebrated Debbie’s birthday.

Abbey Kessman sent a card from Florida, which has a reflective front that shows ... me.

The Thomases (Bob and Syble) sent our first and probably last card this summer from Montana. “America is truly the most beautiful country in the world,” they write.

I agree.

Debi and George Samples, of Wrens, send greetings from a Newaygo, Mich., family reunion and 40th class reunion. I believe they are sampling “unsalted” lake land, pleasant temperatures and “invaluable time with siblings and parents. God is so good to us.”

Jean Hamilton, of North Augusta, Michael Hamilton of Evans, Lisa Marcano, of Martinez, and Ashton Marcano and C.J. Field, of Augusta, send a card from Hilton Head where “it’s been great!”

And finally, if you travel long enough and far enough, you never know what you’ll find. Joe and Lorinda Fournier, of Evans, sent a card from Virginia and report: “We were attending a wedding in Nellyford, Va., We are near Augusta County, Waynesboro, Va., and Woodrow Wilson lived here – just like Augusta, Ga.!”

TODAY’S JOKE: Here’s one from Everett Fernandez.

A visitor from Holland was chatting with his American friend and was jokingly explaining about the red, white and blue in the Netherlands flag.

“Our flag symbolizes our taxes,” he said. “We get red when we talk about them, white when we get our tax bill, and blue after we pay them.”

“That’s the same with us,” the American said, “only we see stars, too.”
