AFTER TWO YEARS OF living in Naples, Italy where pets are free to use the sidewalks for their daily business, I was shocked to be in Augusta and find the same! Citizens of Augusta, pick up after your pets. Don’t make the sidewalks and curbs a waste dump. We need a clean city.

I WAS TROUBLED TO learn that Paine College had been placed on probation by its accrediting body for repeating financial and management failures. How can the Paine president claim to have made great strides in correcting the financial and management issues when they’ve been sanctioned for the same failures? Why has The Augusta Chronicle editorial staff been silent on this matter? Surely, this is an issue of great importance to students and the Augusta community. How can the city contemplate giving Paine College millions of dollars, when the institution is so clearly mismanaged? Come on Chronicle, this is a matter that warrants the same level of scrutiny that you’ve given GRU.

RANT TO REPUBLICANS who blame Obama for the VA scandal when reports in 2004 showed the same problems on their presidential watch. Since then, the GOP Congress has underfunded the VA and made no attempt to fix it until they could blame someone else.

I WOULD SUGGEST THAT even if you are antigun, go buy weapons and ammunition, because when a president does not protect our borders and intentionally divides us as a nation, civil war and domestic violence are around the corner.

LIBERALS ARE DISMAYED that House Majority Leader Cantor lost and Lindsey Graham gets raked over the coals-because both men are “bipartisan” and are willing to “compromise” with Democrats. A better term for the actions of these two would be “surrender.” If Graham had any integrity, he would admit he is a Democrat and run as such.

DO WE NEED TWO pictures of Tiger Woods in our paper today? He looks old, overweight and sad! Should have retired when he was ahead! So many young great players out there today!

THE PROBLEMS AT the VA will never be solved as long as a union is involved.

THIS IS A RANT FOR the present administration. This president is the most ignorant, moronic, narcissistic, destructive president this country has ever had. This president could destroy an anvil in the middle of the ocean!!

Who says you can't be overweight and old if you play competitive golf? Jack did pretty well, older and fatter than Tiger.

Graham

The problem in this country is with those who see Graham as left wing and those who see him as right wing. He is neither. It is YOU who give us poor choices for the general election in the primaries.

For that griper about fireworks moving.

You must be a resident of the neighborhoods surrounding Patriots Park, ticked because you can't sit in your yard and watch it any more. I drove around Evans Towne Center Park today scoping out good viewing spots. There were a bunch of people in the park with ample room to spare, and parking galore within viewing distance of the fireworks. We watched it from Lowes and were on the road 2 minutes after it ended. Most others were on the road shortly too since there are so many roads leading away. As I type this people would still be trying to get away from Patriots.

Very smart move for Columbia County. Not only did it improve parking and egress, the food and beverage merchants in the area did above average business too.

Why not leave dog doo on the sidewalks of Augusta? Cigarette butts, chewing gum, candy wrappers, etc. adorn them too, so what's a little #2 going to hurt?

The borders don't need to be

The borders don't need to be secured and a wall doesn't need to be built. It won't work anyway, don't throw money at a project that is doomed to fail.

Close the Departamento de Servicios de Sociales, and that will solve the problem RIGHT THERE.

No more food stamps, housing, Medicaid, schools, free medicines, and all the other social services that we provide ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, when Americans can't get the services that they can!

Stop having cities decide that they are "sanctuary cities", where illegals can't be deported when they come into police contact.

DO NOT give instate tuition to college students, when we have American students that can't afford college, and on top of that, the illegals get preferential enrollment!

Rebellion

I hate to say it, but I am afraid a revolution within the United States is not far away. In my lifetime {70 plus years} I have never seen our government in such a fix. Our President is hell bent on destroying our country, and I see more and more people beginning to get restless.

Lets Spread the Blame Around

CONGRESS does not have to have wait on the President to Secure the borders. They can vote to call out the Militia in an Invasion.
Allowing State Militia's to Operate with US Congressional Authority.

US Constitution See Article 1 Section 8
Section 8: Powers of Congress - Enumerated powers
...
To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and Repel Invasions;

VA had problems long before Mr. Bush

Ranter #3 seems to think the problem with the VA began in 2004 under Mr. Bush and the Republicans were waiting for a dem prez to blame it on??

Congress has failed to take

Congress has failed to take appropriate actions when they've had the power to do so. Yet, nationwide, this last primary was a disappointment. I'm wondering how our runoff is going to turn out. So far the BoE is reporting a very low turnout, let's hope it's only because of the holiday and things will pick up.

BTW, Corgimom, I have offered those same solutions in much of my correspondence and they seem to end up in File 13. The average citizen can see a plain and simple way to handle the immigration problem, but the prez and the congress have to spend billions of dollars and play games with each other because everyone is afraid to hurt the Hispanic voting bloc. It's about time we stopped worrying about hurt feelings and worried about keeping our country safe and secure.

10 years ago I would have recommended

Every house have at least a 22 rifle and 22 pistol. and 1000 rds of 22LR Ammo. Total cost $400. 22 LR Hollow Point make nasty wounds and Head shots usually drop the problem on the 1st shot.

Also because a 22 is weapon shootable by every family member 8 to 80.

But for various reasons 22 Ammo is still the hardest to obtain.

Whatever the case
I now would recommend ONLY Private purchases....
Just in case the more paranoids types are right about where this administration is headed.

A Wise Man follows the Emergency Preparedness Rule:
It is better to have something now and not need it,
Than to wish you had it when you need it.

VA Problems have been the Norm for the US Government.

Since Vietnam.... Once the war is over there is no $$$$/profit to be made fixing the those that got damaged in the War.

Or have y'all already forgotten the movie Article 99 which was based on the problem Vietnam Vets had in the 80-90's with the VA.

Here is a sample
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLYSC4MpQL8

The whole movie is available on Youtube also.

Think about this..

17 by 12 inches & the man is in trouble for flying the American flag...at HIS home.
“The flag is worth fighting for,” Murphree told a Fox News affiliate. “If they want to foreclose, bring it on. I’m getting calls from all over the county to stand up. That’s what I’m going to do.”

The offensive flag in question is 17-by-12 inches – not much larger than a sheet of legal paper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Get a grip on this please....people are entering the country in droves & they will be rewarded with benefits--health insurance-food & etc...this man could lose his house....

NOW, tell mewith a straight face that we haven't LOST OUR MINDS!!

It's very difficult to make private purchases unless you actually know the seller. Years ago people advertised their weapons for sale in the want ads, today it's impossible to find one as everyone is hanging on to theirs. When I quit hunting I sold my 12 guage and regretted it because lately I've decided to take up hunting again.

A couple of points about the VA in order to help the ranter...

A couple of point about the VA in order to help the ranter have a clear and more accurate picture of the situation.

President Bush briefed Obama in detail as to the problems with the VA, what he was doing to help fix them, and some recommended actions to help correct them. Obama ignored the advice and got on about "the business of changing America".

The budget for the VA has not been reduced by the Republicans. With a little searching one can find the VA has a budget increase each year for a long period of time. Many of the problems do not require money to be fixed...just [filtered word] kickin'.

Point of No Return?

I see where pro-immigration protestors are confronting the anti-illegal immigration protestors in growing numbers. When we have many in this country demanding illegals be allowed to stay we are just about at the point of no return.

Heck, with 44% of so-called Americans saying they are not proud to be American, we probably crossed that "no return" bridge already.

Historic lows

No surprise ..

A study released by Gallup this week shows that confidence in all three branches of government is at new or near-historic lows, with Gallup's Justin McCarthy adding, "There should be concern that now fewer than one in 10 Americans have confidence in their legislative body."

Meanwhile, new studies find that Americans have more faith in the military and the police than in any of the three branches of federal government, and that Americans are less satisfied with their freedom than they were seven years ago.

Louie Zamperini died July

Louie Zamperini died July 3rd. Now, that is my idea of an American hero. If you have not read "Unbroken", I highly recommend it.

The movie about his life will open 12/25 and that will be one of the few movies worth watching.

What an incredible man.

Old Chamber of Commerce Bldg Needs Skylights That Open

The other day there was an article that Matt Kwatinetz, Augusta’s Rasputin, is looking for people to “inhabit” the former Chamber of Commerce Building. The Downtown Development Authority said there is a “need to improve the metrics of people downtown both day and night.” Kwatinetz says they are going to have an “accelerator room, two spontaneous collaboration zones and a lounge.”

I’m not sure what any of that means, but I’m wondering what kind of business tenant could be a success there? I’m reminded of my cousin (honestly) Jody who built the UFO Welcome Center in Bowman, SC out of plywood by his trailer in his yard, to welcome incoming UFOs. Jody parks a yellow ’98 Cadillac outside and will give you a tour of the ship for $1 the hand painted sign nailed on the tree says. There’s a skylight that opens on top so the aliens can get in when they land.

When I’m in the area, talking with my other cousin, Richard, who runs Richard’s beer joint, the subject of Jody often comes up. Jody doesn’t drink so he’s never in the beer joint and we can get away talking about him. Jody never had a job until he built his UFO. He reminds me a lot of Matt Kwatinetz. I wonder if Matt is going to have a skylight on top of his accelerator room that opens?

Life long vow of poverty & wins millions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A man with a winning $259 million Powerball ticket claimed what officials are calling the largest jackpot ever won in Tennessee, and says he plans to use most of the money to support the performing arts.

Roy Cockrum of Knoxville appeared Thursday at the Tennessee Lottery headquarters in Nashville to claim the prize. He plans to accept a lump sum payment of $115 million.

Cockrum, 58, bought the ticket at a Kroger store in Knoxville on June 11. Before becoming a millionaire, he worked for 20 years as an actor and stage manager for theater and TV productions.

He later became known as Brother Roy, as he followed a call to religious service with The Society of Saint John the Evangelist, an Episcopal religious community in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to the society's "Rule of Life," members of the monastic order take "lifelong vows of poverty, celibacy and obedience in an enduring fellowship."

Cockrum said he plans to use most of the money to start a foundation that will support performing arts organizations around the country.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this will be interesting to see if he keeps that vow..hah
