Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

YOU HAD BETTER watch the hateful, falsely fueled rants against President Obama. See what happened to Eric Cantor? Enough sensible people rallied against his $5 million campaigns to surprise him. Others who insist on pursuing hateful rantings with no sensible solutions to problems they wrongfully blame will suffer on the Republican sides. I am looking forward to more glorious falls!

PRESIDENT OBAMA spends his time fundraising for the Democratic Party and ignores his day job as president of the United States. Since the American taxpayers are paying his salary, Obama needs to turn over every cent he has raised or give up his job.

THE ONES WITH the guns I worry about are not their licenses but their mental states. There are several national incidents of licensed gun owners who went out and shot up kids and people in public places with their guns. I work at a place that serves lots of customers. In the past few years, I’ve encountered nice people who slowly change and act all weird in a way that is scary. I can’t tell if they are going to be a danger to me or anyone when they start talking and acting weird. Is there any legal way to get an authority figure to check on these people? Please tell us regular people how to deal with people who change strangely.

I’M GLAD TO HEAR that the jails are under a “no cash” system and that it cuts into ability to pay crooks or even “legal crooks” to do illegal things. Why should prisoners get every single thing free? They are supposed to pay for their crimes!

I HEARTILY AGREE with refinancing student loans at the current lower rates. Most other groups of citizens get to refinance at a lower rate at times. But I completely object to ever forgiving any loans after 10 or even 20 years. There’s no way any students or any other class of residents need to be encouraged to drag their heels in paying back so that they can have any amounts forgiven at all. That is not the way to teach students about financial responsibility.

WILL THE RICHMOND County sheriff’s deputy speeding down Walton Way Extension and Jackson Road in an unmarked car on a recent Saturday night slow down? With no flashing lights, that is dangerous. Had you driven slowly enough for us to call dispatchers with your license tag, we would have.

Ranter #5- the loan payments

Ranter #5- the loan payments have to be made on time for 20 years to be eligible for forgiveness. The borrowers can't drag their feet and pay a little bit here, a little bit there, they have to make all of the payments and on time.

Br'er Rabbit

A more conservative candidate beating Eric Cantor and some thinking it helps Obama, reminds me of Br'er Rabbit and the Briar Patch.

Ranter #1......."YOU HAD BETTER watch the hateful, falsely fueled rants against President Obama. See what happened to Eric Cantor."

Cantor was beaten because it was one of those puke states that lets Democrats vote in Republican primaries. Just like Cochran won his primary in Mississippi by pandering to the union and the welfare Democrats to come out and vote for him because the other guy might cut off their welfare.

It has NOTHING to do with talking bad about Obama. None of the Republican candidates likes Obama. So don't be too sure there will be any fails in November. The common thread among ALL of the Republican candidates is that they know Obama and every one of his policies is a disaster. That is a given and it is readily apparent if you look at Obama's NEGATIVE economic growth last quarter, the over 12% actual unemployment rate, the number of people on food stamps, the absolute collapse of the Middle East and North Africa, failed energy policy, the IRS scandal, the Benghazi scandal, the failed immigration policy and absolute catastrophe in progress on our southern borders. Obama can screw up a wet dream. His is a total failure and an absolute disaster.

Boehner's planning using taxpayer money to sue President Obama.
Let's face it. Republicans will use every last dirty trick to throw a wrench in the spokes of progress. House Speaker Boehner planned a politically motivated lawsuit, and voters would punish Republicans for it in November.

Cities on the Rise in Georgia!!

Top 10 Cities on the Rise in Georgia.....

Augusta continues to move forward despite the lack of promotion from the local media and city.. Let's make sure the positive news(2nd in the nation for high tech job growth between 2006-2011, 12th in the nation for high tech job growth between 2010-2011, 10th for midsize cities winning information jobs in 2014 and #35 overall) receives the same amount of recognition compared to the daily negative reports..

The CSRA and metro Augusta can easily be one of the most vibrant midsize cities in the US if the community learns to come together.. Imagine the possibilities if the overwhelmingly majority of residents in Richmond, Columbia, and Aiken spent more time working together instead of the daily comparisons about which county is better.. Imagine the possibilities if the local festivals/events were constantly promoted(Candlelight Jazz, Market on the River, Movies on the Common)... Imagine the possibilities if the local media actually reported the daily life and not just the daily crime in Augusta.

Six of the top 10 cities are suburbs located in metro Atlanta... Augusta is the only major city ranked in the top 10 and the other nine are suburban cities.. Augusta and Martinez were the only city/suburb combination to make the top 10..

Hey! Am I the only person

Hey! Am I the only person who clicks on any article of the paper, start reading about a paragraph's worth of content, and then see that there's NOTHING else in the article EXCEPT a portion that reads "Answer a survey question to continue reading this content"????

What the heck is that about??? I hope this is just a temporary and trial glitch! After all, I'm paying for this stuff and I'm already blasted with enough ads and I shouldn't have to put up with this crud!
Gonna give it a day to see if it goes away and, if not, I'm calling the paper to get it straightened out. This is ridiculous. Don't see anyone else commenting on it, so it might be a selective thing. Well, select me off of it.

Not Only East Richmond County

Countyman, realize coming together in the CSRA does not mean promoting only things and events in East Richmond County. But you're on the right track looking at the CSRA as a whole.

ranter number three: maybe

ranter number three: maybe they started acting strange because they think YOU started to act strange. you do sound a bit paranoid. and wanting some 'person in authority' to 'legally check' on 'people who change strangely' sounds an awful lot like witch-hunting and the inquisitions of long-ago. better be careful what you ask for: you just may get it, and that 'authority figure' will be checking out you and yours, simply because someone reported that you 'changed strangely'.

Be careful, Riverman. You're probably going to have a bunch of people claiming "there's no such place" and then mocking you for being a map reader.

James Huberty legally

James Huberty legally purchased guns and then went to a McDonald's in San Ysidro CA and engaged in a massacre. He killed 21 people and wounded 19, including children.

It was broadcast live on tv, and I saw the children shot when they rode up to the McDonald's on their bicycles. They were just two boys going to McDonald's for something to eat.

It was horrific and unforgettable.

Too close for comfort

Nobody much likes to think about these things, but the threats are indeed real in Yemen and elsewhere. Last October, the Knights Templar – a breakaway group from Mexico’s Michoacan drug cartel – took out the power grid in Michoacan state, attacking nine substations and leaving over 400,000 without electricity.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

If that happens here, will we hear another MADE UP STORY??

The emails are slowly leaking out

"We have seen a lot of unbelievable things in this investigation, but the fact that Lois Lerner attempted to initiate an apparently baseless IRS examination against a sitting Republican United States senator is shocking," Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, said. "At every turn, Lerner was using the IRS as a tool for political purposes in defiance of taxpayer rights."

Lerner headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. The IRS has acknowledged that agents improperly scrutinized applications by tea party and other conservative groups before the 2010 and 2012 elections. Documents show that some liberal groups were singled out, too.

Grassley had been an outspoken critic of the way the IRS policed tax-exempt groups even before the tea party controversy erupted last year.
