Comments from readers:

I WOULD LIKE TO thank newspaper carrier Connie Williams for the wonderful service she has provided for over 20 years. I could always depend on my paper being here by 5 a.m. She was here rain, shine, sleet or snow. She will be missed in our neighborhood. I hope she enjoys quality time with her family and friends. She deserves it. I don’t think she can be replaced.

IT SURE IS NICE TO see the roads cleaned up from all the political signs. Major intersections were just awful. Now the election is over; whether you lost or won, get your signs cleaned up.

DOES THE JOINT commission that rigidly inspects hospitals also inspect VA hospitals? If yes, why were inadequacies not revealed? If no, why not?

SEC COMMISSIONER Mike Slive thinks he can control everything concerned with college athletics. The SEC is not bigger than the NCAA. Slive thinks the national championship game should automatically have an SEC team and the other 112 teams in the country should be playing for the other spot. The SEC wants autonomy and wants to set its own rules instead of following the NCAA rules. I say ban Slive and the mighty SEC if they want to dictate what goes on in college athletics.

ANYONE IN RICHMOND County who thinks a dispute concerning their property assessment will work, take notice. You will be turned down. Smile and be nice. You will get turned down. Have all your ducks in a row, you will still be turned down.

ALL THESE TEEN shootings need to stop.

RANT FOR THE TRASH pickup. If you can’t pick up the trash on the day it’s due, then don’t take the holiday. I pay too much money to have it sitting out in front of my house.

NOW THAT DEAL HAS won the Republican nomination, I will have to vote for a Democrat for governor. If Deal wins, MCG leaves Augusta. Columbia County, where will you be then?

PEOPLE SHOULDN’T criticize marijuana. When I was going through my divorce, I couldn’t eat or sleep. My stomach was in knots. Someone told me to try taking a couple of draws. I did, and then I could eat and sleep. It is not as bad as people who have never tried it think.

Teen shootings need to stop?

What do you propose? The problem begins and ends within their communities and culture. Teen motherhood, no father, life of poverty brought on by same. No respect for life or one another. You can't throw money at that to fix it. It has to stop by fathers being responsible fathers and mothers being responsible mothers. Only they can break the cycle.

OR, are you referring to the wider issue of mass killings by demented teens? The same applies in a lot of cases; mom and dad too busy to love and mentor their children.

Hey Major Big Box retailers that went Anti-Gun!!!

I see business is off and/or more stores are closings.

Would it have anything to do with siding with those Anti-Gun Protesting Nuts 10-12 years ago and the steady decline in gun owning customers and their other related purchases?

What happen to all those Liberal's shoppers that promised to shop if the GUNS were gone?

You toed their Anti-Gun Agenda line, nut they failed to show up.

Looks like dropping the sell of Ammo and Firearms did not bring in the $$$$ you were promised by the Liberal Anti-Gun Nuts.

Also not surprising your competitors that still carry firearm are doing better and are growing each year while y'all are down sizing.

Food for Thought
There are more Pro-Gun Owners, than Anti-Gunners and we
represent more $$$$$$$.

Set up 2 feeders for 3 months at different ends of the house, I go the same results.

Took them down and the birds learned to feed themselves again.

Picture this: "The officer

Picture this: "The officer told Middleton he was a police officer, but Middleton struck the officer in the face, knocked him to the ground and continued to hit him, according to Shapiro.

Passley joined in and kicked the officer, Shapiro said. The officer then drew his gun and shot Middleton once.

“He was about to lose consciousness to people beating him,” said Camden, defending the actions of the officer, who works in a West Side police district. “He fired in defense of his life.”

The thug's sister's comment: "“He was a good person,” she said. “I know for sure he wasn’t out to harm the man. My brother would never harm anybody. I could understand him [the officer] being upset, but two wrongs don’t make a right.”

REALLY?? Not out to harm the man after knocking him down and kicking the snot out of him?

"ARE NOT FALLING APART OR FALLING."

It's only been a couple of weeks. Give it a little time.

Besides, I'm not so sure "fall apart" was the downside. It was more that infrastructure that really needs improvement won't get improved. The likely result of that is more people badmouthing ARC for having such old, decrepit, "Detroit like" infrastructure and amenities.

Treading water doesn't get you very far forward.

Most Discussed

Okay, R&R commenters, it's time to unite! Let each one today click over to the "Oconee River Dwindling" thread and make a comment, germane or not. This story was pulled from the Most Discussed list in early afternoon Monday while the debate was still hot and heavy.

We need to get it back on the Most Discussed list again just for general principles!

Itsa, that's why those people

Itsa, that's why those people do that stuff. Because they have families that enable their behavior.

And that's the difference between decent people and trash. We were all brought up to respect the law, respect police officers, and it was made clear to us that getting into trouble and doing wrong things would disgrace our families. And if anybody did get into trouble, the families would be the first to raise Cain with the person, they got it from all sides.

When the NCAA and ACC give Notre Dame special consideration that sets a precedent for the SEC to seeks its own demands. Why not?

Ranter Is Going To Vote For Carter

Talk about deja vu, Jimmy Carter's grandson running for governor with Jimmy campaigning for him. Next we'll have some reincarnation of Democrat Lester Maddox. Vote Republican and stop the nepotism.

Discussing "Most Discussed"

I guess the Most Discussed counter has issues.

LL points out the River article with 94+ comments is not listed as Most Discussed.

A quick check shows comment numbers (discussed) mean nothing.

My Summation
So maybe the counter is based on Hourly POSTED/READ numbers on NEW Articles and not total numbers and we are about to see.

RM1 - Now hold on there partner

Lester and his axe handle cleaned up Under Ground Atlanta...
Well not really.

But he was FAR from a Jimmy Carter...
He at least had a Back Bone against crime in GA while Gov.

I like the inventive way he handled the Ludowici, Georgia speed trap.
In March 1970, Governor Lester Maddox's feud with the corrupt town made national news when he ordered the placement of billboards (see photo URL below) just outside of town and Paved a BY-PASS around the town. As the story goes.

Yeah, ban the SEC. LOL. Wonder how much the NCAA would get for their television contract then? The price would fall faster than a Masters ticket without Tiger. Besides that, I wonder what the ranter is talking about?

A new kind of doctor

I'm hearing now that some doctors will go to limited service...they will see about 600 patients a year, if you pay a flat $1600 up front each year.....a friend told her doctor that she couldn't afford him anymore. She said she was working 2 jobs now to pay her bills. I don't really blame them for getting out of the medical boondoogle.

Speaking of the Savannah

Speaking of the Savannah Westin, I wonder why Augusta doesn't have a luxury hotel on a golf course? The thing we are known best for could bring in folks year round. That was rumored to be what the Scottish guy wanted to do with The Patch.

Misty Waters,
Jesse Carrolls Swimming pond,
I forget the name of the one on Story Mill Rd in Hephzibah,
the Quarry up at Clark Hill,
Spirit Creek below US 25 Bridge,
The Barton Chapel back way into Fort Gordon and the Water fall swimming hole.
