ALL THE DOGS AND CATS in Columbia County need to have their shots before people let them walk into other people’s yards.

I VOTED FOR TSPLOST. I thought the money was going to fix roads that really needed to be fixed. I’m disappointed to think that they are going to spend money on Berckmans Road when it is not broken. When you consider how the rest of the infrastructure is in this town, that is a big disappointment and I will not be voting for another TSPLOST.

DO NOT CALL AND wake me from my nap. If you do, I will not vote for you. If you call my house I will not vote for you. Do not call.

WHY CAN’T THE SUNKEN Mercedes Benz in the Savannah River with stripped VIN and license plate that “puzzles officials” be identified in other ways? The VIN on Mercedes Benz vehicles is also stamped on the engine block, frame, and other vehicle parts. Has anyone thought of this resolution?

WHY IS FRANK ROBERSON, Richmond County schools superintendent, making high level appointments when he is on his way out? Why do board members allow this to happen when Roberson has not been able to function effectively since his unfortunate illness? Roberson and the Richmond County BOE should delay
making high level appointments until a new superintendent is selected. This would be in the best interest for the students in Richmond County.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the person that turned in my purse that I left momentarily in the buggy at the Evans Wal-Mart on Saturday, May 24th around noon. So thankful that there are still some honest people in the world. I will do a good deed today in your honor.

WHEN I READ YOUR article about the choir from Trinity going to Godalming, England, I almost cried. The late Honorable Charles Devaney created and nurtured the relationship with Godalming for years before his untimely death. But that wasn’t even mentioned. Neither Deke Copenhaver nor Bob Young had anything to do with establishing that relationship.

WHY DON’T THE GRU crossing guards on Laney-Walker and 15th Street understand that pedestrians sometimes should wait to cross the street? Instead, the crossing guards will stop traffic that has the right-of-way via the traffic lights so that a pedestrian can walk into the street and cross. Seems like part of their job should be tell pedestrians to wait their turns.

I am so glad that you have seen the way our politicians bait and switch. I salute you for your decision not to vote for future TSPLOSTs. I encourage you also to vote NO! on the "regular" SPLOST which will be on Augusta's ballot in November, 2015. If that referendum fails, our sales tax will actually drop a percent. That would be good news to families struggling with their budget.

I get what you are saying, but if Supt. Roberson does not make the appointments, who do you propose should make the appointments? It's a no win situation.

Rave to Ranter #8!

Let the traffic signals do their jobs. Do not abet jaywalking when there are functioning signals. The safety officers should be there to blow their whistles to warn pedestrians not to cross against the signals.

Is it time to amend the ARC Charter?

Am I correct in that the new election cycle with Mid May elections has the LAME DUCK Mayor sitting in a chair, but not leaving for another 180+ days (6 mo)?

If so should not the ARC charter being updated to reflect the election changes going forward?

TSPLOST & SPLOST tax promises verses the real thing

Reminds me a of a political joke.

A busload of politicians were driving down a country road when, all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field.

The old farmer, after seeing what happened, went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a hole and bury the politicians.

A few days later, the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus and asked the old farmer where all the politicians had gone.

The old farmer said he had buried them.

The sheriff asked the old farmer, "Were they ALL dead?"

The old farmer replied, "Well, some of them said they weren't, but you know how them politicians lie."

@Ranter 1

Come on, Miss. Haven't you noticed that the world is on fire? And all you're worried about is dogs and cats in your yard?

Just buy a dart gun and lace the darts with some sort of irritant and the animals will get the message: "Don't go into that yard."

UNBELIEVABLE!!

Dear Lord; please, please, please tell me that this is satire. High school was a lost blur for me before I dropped out, so I had to have learned this in elementary school. I can not believe that anyone over the age of 13 in this country wouldn't know the answers.

It's interesting to me how people have been convinced to judge the entire package by one minute aspect thereof. Is Berckmans road "broken" really the issue, or is it that Augusta benefits from the planned changes to Berckmans road?

Let's face it....there was a successful campaign organized and conducted with the goal of thwarting the SPLOST proposal. The detractors won. Was defeating it better, or worse, for ARC? I say worse. Others obviously disagree.

Life goes on.....

Covering the VA screw ups is simple

They happen with such frequency that all the Media has to do is fill in the blank:

"Congress has joined those calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary _________ to resign."

NOTE: It IS NOT ABOUT FUNDING VET CARE,
it is about DELIVERING THE VET CARE .

It seem the $$$$ for care bonus program for doctors might be the largest single cause of this latest VA Scandal.

Because according to Budget Figures released by the VA, the CBO and several Overseas News sources.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) expects to have more money for medical care than it can spend for the 5th fiscal year in a row.

So the $$$$ is flowing it is all VA Management.

"So the $$$$ is flowing it is all VA Management."

It's corrupt, inefficient, ineffective government at many levels.

At the VA for having no sense of accountability, lazy doctors, thieving, unscrupulous Administrators, and an ineffective Secretary of Veterans Affairss.

At Congress for grossly failing in its duty to oversee the Department.

At the White House for making it a "priority" to make sure veterans are well taken care of.

The VA has been getting far more money than it can possibly spend over the past five, or six, years even in spite of all the new facilities, the new furniture, the lavish spending on travel and entertainment, and throwing billions of dollars around for bonuses to people who consistently underperform and blatantly lie about their performance.

The VA scandal is a glimpse at what the entire U.S. health care system is about to become.

If you vote for democrats, you're voting for the VA health system for yourself and your children.

The world can't stop making decisions because change is coming. Change is inevitable and life has to move forward. So you are suggesting that the school system open schools that haven't had leadership in place all summer to ensure a successful school opening? I don't think that would be an effective solution to the problems at hand.

"Richmond County BOE should

"Richmond County BOE should delay making high level appointments until a new superintendent is selected."

1. If the RCBOE cared about the school system they would have cut Roberson loose 2 years ago.

2. To quote a lying politician, "what difference does it make now". The BOE will hire the next superintendent based on the same primary qualification (singular) that it has hired the current and the previous 2 or 3 superintendents and things just keep getting worse.

They BOE will find another candidate who is black, has an education background, has all of the requisite degrees (because we hand those out like candy now), and is full of HBA style "positive" platitudes and who talks about "the children". When what we really need is a hard nosed executive type who has a proven record of common sense no favoritism decisions, efficient management, cutting waste, kicking butt, taking names, and demanding performance and accountability. I don't care if they are black OR white as long as the BOE gets the rest of it right.

The Obama Plan...

...for dealing with any and all of their MANY examples of lousy, often criminal, examples of bad government.

1. Lie to, steal from, and allow your citizens to be mistreated, or killed.

2. Wait until the abuse is so obvious that even your supporters in mainstream media have no choice but to pick up the story.

3. Announce you are "weally, weally mad about it" and promise to investigate and make the violators pay the price.

4. Don't investigate. Wait for the furor to die down.

5. If Congress investigates, claim you are cooperating even while you're doing everything possible to lie, cheat, and cover up. Drag out the investigations by redacting all evidence to the point of worthlessness to the investigators. Wait them out.

6. After months and months of thwarting investigations, one day announce things have already been investigated too much and that it's all "old news" being dragged on by "political partisans."

7. All the while the above plan is running its course, keep insisting your cooperation has been complete, your Administration totally transparent, and your motives pure.

Countyman, why should people

Countyman, why should people support their downtown?

There are people in RC that live miles and miles away from downtown, just because you live there doesn't mean that everybody else wants to go there.

All of the events you mention are specialty events, and the people that want to go, will, and the people that don't, won't. But nobody is under any obligation to support Downtown, and never were.

The CSRA will be surrounded by new road construction, because of the voters approving TSPlost... When is the last time metro Augusta had this much road construction at once?

Four major projects have already begin construction..
1. $21.5 million/Wrightsboro rd
2. $43 million/Windsor Spring rd
3. $30 million/Mike Padgett rd
4. $34 million/Old Petersburg rd

''Countyman, why should people support their downtown?''

Supporting downtown= high paying jobs, culture, restaurants, boutiques, cosmopolitan feel, office towers, hotels, additional tourist, sense of place, trendy neighborhoods, etc..
