Comments from readers:

NOT TO DOWNGRADE mothers for their work, but I think the priorities of salary of actors and sports figures are skewered compared to the salaries of soldiers, law enforcement, firefighters, etc. I realize acting and sports are special talents that many millions of people want to watch, but to the level of not being able to better pay the military, law enforcement personnel, etc.? We need to roll back the upper numbers and raise those pitifully low salaries of those who really make the sacrifices of putting their lives on the line.

INSTEAD OF STARTING a committee to see why four people were killed in Benghazi, maybe they should start a committee to find out why 40 people a day are killed with guns.

I HAVE A RANT about the postal service carriers. Do they hire people who don’t care where they put the mail? I get mail all of the time for next door, three doors down the street, a different street but correct number. It’s ridiculous.

ARE MAGNET SCHOOLS really that great? Have you looked at the SAT and AP scores? Students at these schools are chosen to be there and must have high grades. Their scores should be better than what we see.

NATHAN DEAL IS not a true conservative. He is a true politician who will do anything to get what he wants. He, Azziz and the Board of Regents need to leave this area.

THE U.S. CHAMBER OF Commerce is for immigration reform (amnesty/open borders) and Common Core (centralized control of all education). These clowns would sell their own mothers for a buck.

MORE AND MORE STATES are pushing for same-sex marriages. It is not natural.

HELEN BLOCKER-ADAMS was looking to be the best candidate for mayor, but not anymore. I can’t understand why she is confused about the debts she owes. How can you not know about an outstanding debt of $70,000?

WHERE ARE THE North Augusta police when I see people speeding down Georgia Avenue and Highway 25 and people running red lights? Where are they hiding?

THE NO-KILL ANIMAL pounds have to charge for these animals because they have to pay for shots, and the animals are fixed so they won’t have puppies.

The BIG Question

Will the PORK LOADED SPLOST 7 pass or not.

IF it fails will they clean it up and resubmit next year?

IF it wins will some one actually seek a court injunction on the grounds it Violates the GA Constitution

Example Given:
SPLOST funds cannot be used to construct projects for local
charities or other non-profit organizations? Because the
gratuities clause of the Georgia Constitution bars local
governments from using SPLOST or any other public funds to fund
capital outlay projects for non-public entities. This
restriction applies to for-profit organizations as well as
not-for-profit organizations, including charitable organizations
[Ga.Const. 1983, art. IX, § II, par. VIII].

Paine college is a Non-Profit
Miller and Imperial for-profit organizations

This means the SPLOST is clearly in violation of the Ga Constitution.

BTW: at 8:38pm

SPLOST WAS BEING VOTED DOWN 56.37% to 43.63%
So early voters are against the SPLOST in its current state.

Experiencing Min Wage service

The location isn't important, because the service is typical at many Hamburger joints.

A simple order:
Double Hamburger NO-Cheese, Mayo Only.
Came back 3 different ways wrong, before a manager personally stepped in and showed the guy, wearing Saggins BUT a shirt at least covering his draws, how to put 2 burger patties on 2 slices of bread and dab some Mayo in it.

Minimum Wage exists for a reason.
IT IS A TRAINING WAGE.

There is no way an off the street burger flipper or stacker should $15.00 p/hr.

Republican voters in Georgia

Republican voters in Georgia and Kentucky are heading to the polls today to determine which GOP extremist will represent their party in the general election this November. And when I look at some of their options -- Mitch McConnell and his nearly 30 years of anti- woman regin, Republican Congressman Jack Kingston member of the infamous "Crackpot Caucus," Sarah Palin's buddy Karen Handel, and bad businessman David Perdue, I know we have to do everything we can to make sure Democratic candidates win these seats.

New Era In Augusta

The character of the Commission has certainly changed. It's now a black mayor and it appears Ben Hasan will be heading to a run-off with Bob Finnegan.

Most of the "no kill animal

Most of the "no kill animal pounds", as the poster put it, get all shots, medical treatment and spay/neuter services done for free or at an extremely reduced rate.

Richmond County charges $65-85 for an adoption fee, but that includes the shots, micro chip, heartworm testing, and spay/neuter of the animal.

Columbia County charges $10 - 25 for an adoption fee, they do not include any veterinary care of the adopted animal. You must provide proof of shots and spay/neuter within a certain time period.

Rescues get the animals for free from the local county run shelters (as rescues they are not charged - locally, I can't speak for state or nationwide) and there is no reason to charge $200+ to adopt an animal from a rescue. They have volunteers to take care of the animals and food, toys, accessories are mostly donated. The money that some, and I stress 'some', of these groups make on adoption fees is ridiculous. Don't let me forget to comment on the conditions that some of these "rescues" keep animals in are horrendous... they don't care about the living condition of the animal, it's all about the quantity of animals they can claim to save, not the quality of life these poor animals actually have to endure while in their custody.

I'm all for rescues that do a good job, but I don't like the local run shelters getting attacked, they do the best they can with what they have - which is limited funds and space. Blame the negligent pet owners, if it weren't for them the need for local shelters wouldn't be so great.

Committee to find out why 40 people a day are shot & killed

Where are you getting that number? Not that it matters, we already know why people are shot and killed, usually by thugs with guns. Illegal guns. Not usually by law abiding citizens who have registered guns or permits to carry.

No need for a committee to figure that out.

But by your rant, I'm fairly certain you don't care about the 4 dead Americans in the Benghazi terrorist attack, you just want to deflect from the real issue at hand, which is that our Government failed these four men and their loved ones and a lot of the American public want an answer to this question: Why all the lies?

"SPLOST was defeated.

"SPLOST was defeated. Congrats to those who worked so hard against it."

The job is not over. Now we have to make sure that when they bring it back is not full of different, "not Deke's", pork. Most of the candidates who so staunchly opposed SPLOST only opposed it because it did not contain THEIR special interest pork items.

We have to let them know we will vote it down again if they put private organizations and special interests in the next incarnation. ONLY GOVERNMENT INFRASTRUCTURE AND DEPARTMENTAL SPECIAL PROJECTS.

That's right, keep wasting

That's right, keep wasting time on Benghazi, so that the Democrats can YET AGAIN win the Presidency.

Do people not understand this?

If the Republicans don't get their act together, we are going to get ANOTHER Democratic president, and it'll be the GOP's fault.

The vast majority of people DON"T CARE about Benghazi, and they aren't going to care when they go to the polls.

Lying and Abuse By Government

It's the Benghazi cover-up that will do the Democrats in exactly as the Watergate cover-up did Nixon in. It's the lying and abuse of authority by a President that people don't want.

OPEN REQUEST TO INCOMING POLITICIANS

The Defeat of SPLOST 7

Now that this last Great Payback/giveaway hooray for a few outgoing politicians has been defeated, I wish to make a sincere request of our incoming leaders.

PLEASE FOCUS on what in "needed" countywide.
Taxpayers have had enough of the stupid and extremely wasteful pocket lining, special interest group, Boss Hog, type projects.

We need you to put the political tit-for-tat spending aside.

We need you to focus on what ARC needs, not WHO wants it.

We need you to look at whatever SPLOST that is developed for May 2015 as a way to improve ARC as a "whole".

Remember about 68+% of the voters live outside the old city limits.
Of that 68+% enough have demonstrated they are FED UP with Downtown boondoggle after boondoggle. Projects that claim to do great things for a given price to improve Augusta but always overrun and fail to meet even the lowest expectations. But make a certain contractors / Families $$$$$$$.

Please break the tradition that has wasted so much $$$$$ over the years. The thought that Downtown must be rebuilt, revitalized or needs mimic another city's success.

Please remember Augusta is Augusta, not Charlotte, Columbia, Atlanta or Savannah. What works for those cities has repeatedly proven are not right nor nonworking for Augusta.

Please remember over $300+ $milliion$ has been dumped in to Downtown related projects over the years, with no visible success.

Please take a few days a month to get away from the political whispers in your ears. Drive around the WHOLE county, speak and with people countywide. Learn for yourself, look at what you see, look at what you can do for the county.

Please remember Richmond Co. is over 310+ Sq Miles, not just the 5 sq miles we see downtown.

Please remember we are a CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT that has a majority of its offices and all of its courts Downtown and nowhere near the majority of the population.

Please remember Downtown is only a small part of the Picture that for too long has been getting the Lions share of the Taxpayers $$$$$.

So I ask, please be the first group of politicians, in a long time to Do The Right Things for ALL of the Richmond Co. Taxpayers.

BTW: There are a few good senior Commissioners who have been really trying to fix things, please seek them out.

Something Being Overlooked

Joe Jackson's old District Seat 6 will go to a run-off. Ben Hasan was the leading vote getter and if he wins that will mean the racial balance on the Commission will be 6-4 black. Bob Finnegan, a white candidate, came in second. There were two white candidates, Finnegan and Roger Garvin. Their combined vote count was 1259. The combined vote count for the three black candidates was 2068. I'd say the numbers favor Hasan.

Dist 6 run off

I am tossed up on this race an not because of race.

I have people that I high respect their abilities to profile candidates
and the political path they will plow for ARC.

Up to now, I have heard good things about Mr. Hasan and Mr. Finnegan.

So at this point I guess I will start digging deeper in to both's background and cross compare them fairly and honestly.

POSTAL SERVICE

Guess I must be lucky. Even though there have been times when I get a piece of mail not mine our mail carrier is very professional and friendly and we appreciate her very much. When there is a package too large for the mail box she takes the time to attempt to get the package to the recipient before leaving a pickup notice. If you are have that much trouble you need to notify the post office who will do a route survey and try to get the problem corrected.

Rant about magnet schools

"ARE MAGNET SCHOOLS really that great? Have you looked at the SAT and AP scores? Students at these schools are chosen to be there and must have high grades. Their scores should be better than what we see"

I have a problem with the existance of magnet schools!! I don't care if these students are geniouses, I don't believe in giving this much special attention to any students!! If "REGULAR" students would get togather and sue this boards of education for discrimination, maybe the school system would be absolutly fair!!

Always amazed

At people who tell others to give up their on their positions in order to win an election. I mean, what's wrong with that picture? I can only assume that they, themselves have no moral compass and think others do not as well.
