SUMTER, S.C. — Authorities say a 33-year-old man beat a woman to death with a hammer in a Sumter County home and hurt her 14-year-old daughter and a disabled woman in the home.

Deputies say Compton beat the 44-year-old woman, then forced the woman’s 14-year-old daughter to see what he had done. He continued beating the mother when the teen refused to have sex.
Investigators say Compton also tried to suffocate a 46-year-old disabled woman in the home.
