Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

HERE WE GO AGAIN. South Augusta is the last to get everything. It had the mayor’s forum already passed over the city with the exception of the Diamond Lakes area. We are in south Augusta. How come we’re being treated like stepchildren? We are always the last people to get anything.

THIS IS A RANT FOR the lady in Golden Corral on April 4. Honey, we feel your pain. It’s awful to have a disabled child. But sweetheart, the world does not revolve around your every single mood. You were rude. You called managers names. You were rude to the customers and the employees. You need to keep your hiney home and cook supper because you are one miserable lady.

IT’S UNFORTUNATE, your article about farmers not granted individual storm aid. This country probably doesn’t understand what hunger is all about. It’s disgusting. Farmers should be first in this country.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED to Richmond County schools? A lot of teachers are breaking the laws with drugs and other unlegal things and then my 11-year-old grandson in the sixth grade gets jumped on by an eighth-grader, beat down to the ground. All the students are calling the teacher, who’s nowhere around. What kind of school system do we have? God help us.

SUNDAY, MARCH 30, at Cracker Barrel in Evans, you paid for my lunch. What a blessing you were. I will never forget your kindness. May God bless you. I appreciate it greatly.

I WENT TO A neighborhood meeting and lots of neighbors complained about barking dogs. There’s a saying, “Only a dead dog is an obedient dog.” Keep your puppies close and keep them quiet.

I’M NOT SO GULLIBLE as to believe this thing with the plane. Ever hear about Diego Garcia?

I’D LIKE TO THANK Glynn Moore for his article about his dad in the April 7 Chronicle. Wonderful, wonderful article.

WITH ALL THE LIES that are being told in the capital, they should make April Fool’s Day a national holiday.

WHEN THEY HAD the ice storm they warned people against price gouging. I guess the Masters doesn’t count. People are paying $400 for an $80 room. Now, if they allow price gouging during the Masters, why should they exempt anybody else?

Diego Garcia

Have you ever been there? It is a dot in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and way to far out of this planes range.

Regarding the South Side being last

Some day, some one will need to sit me down and justify why a part of the county that has about 40+/-% of the population, about 40+/-% of the land mass, about 40% +/- of the Homes, generates 30+% of the property taxes and provides just over 20% sales taxes is always told to quit whining. They always point the Political Park deal of 7 years ago?

Well that was 7 years ago.

Lets compare apples to apples in the 16 years since consolidation.
What has DOWNTOWN CBD seen funneled their way, vs The South Side at taxpayer expense?

Besides relocating DOWNTOWN'S problems to the South Side.

School system

Until we get a Charter School system and get the teachers union out of the school system, the school system will never change. A lot of teachers are not teaching, they are being activist'.

Just found a nasty phone scam in the CSRA

I have been receiving calls from an area code 402 number. Finally researched the number from a scam website and found the following: this number is registered to a survey organization but has been hacked by a fraudulent scammer who is gathering personal information to sell. A survey organization is exempt from the Do Not Call Registry so they can call you. The survey company is in Nebraska and the scammer is in Utah. Unless you know somebody in the 402 area code area DO NOT ANSWER any calls from area code 402 until the authorities can take action. Having had my identity stolen once before I can beseech you to heed this warning. If your identity is stolen you will suffer for years. The real nasty thieves often report you as dead if you go against them.
Be warned friends.

Diego Garica & The Range of a 777

A few people might want to look of the BOEING provided 777 Range chart:

http://www.boeing.com/assets/images/commercial/777family/images/rc_dubai...

Then look at :
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/distances.html?n=932

It was do-able.
Not saying it did, just saying it could.

But if it did, the Automated Air defense system would have taken care of any airbrone object not displaying FoF ID Sig , many miles off shore from Diego Garica.

south augusta: if you aren't

south augusta: if you aren't getting the attention you deserve, make sure you all make a concerted effort to show up at the voting polls when elections occur. it's apparent the current crop of incompetent, back-biting, self-serving augusta politico's have no intention, never had any intention, and never will have any intention of serving your interests as is your right, so clean house and get some folks in office who look beyond the little insular wasteland bubble of downtown augusta, where, once again in the paper today, we see another shooting death at a 'club'. evidently whatever plan they have going isn't working too well there, either, so dump this crop of ne'er do wells. not guaranteeing the next crop of officials will be any better, since integrity, honesty, and selfless devotion to a good cause seems to be in rare and short supply these days. good luck.

geecheeriverman: you are

geecheeriverman: you are absolutely correct. unions, along with a bunch of other things we won't delve into here, have been the ruination of this country in more ways than one, and they should definitely not be telling us how to educate our children. i get a real kick out of the cars out there with the license plates on that say 'educator'. 'brainwasher' is what it should say, cause that's exactly what they're doing, brainwashing the kids to be good little liberal sheeples. thank god our daughters are way beyond public schooling now, but were they still young enough to go, i would never let them set foot inside a public school. bad enough we still pay school taxes when we have no kids in school, it really gets the heartburn going when hearing what it is they are 'teaching' these days.

Perhaps that teacher was busy

Perhaps that teacher was busy dealing with another little thug beating up somebody else. Or dealing with a sick child, or an injured child.

They can't be everywhere.

Because that's when the little criminals do their dirt, is when the teacher is tied up with somebody else.

A RAVING Sucess .... Finally

Having scoured the North Ga, country side for months, we finally located a foreclosure house in the remote Henry/Butts county line area and our bid was accepted yesterday.

We will closing in mid May.

We got it at $24,900.00 under appraised value, so we are not top heavy either.

"Bullet Proof Coffee"

ColdBeer, excellent breakfast. Just add "Bullet Proof Coffee." Anybody ever had that?

Seenit, excellent mood setting comment for us around Augusta this week. Everybody is chillin. It looks like the company, Kraton, has about taken over Jones Creek. They must have rented a zillion houses and have their banner out front of each one.

No Actual Teachers Union in Georgia

Teachers in Georgia actually don't have a union that possesses any authority. The Georgia Association of Educators can't keep a teacher from being fired or disciplined. The problem is the demographics.

Wisconsin is often lauded for their excellent test scores, but guess what? Black students in Georgia score higher than black students in Wisconsin. That info is from 2009, but I doubt it's changed.

Diego Garcia and Other Isolated Islands

Those small islands scattered over the world in the middle of the ocean fascinate me. Years ago I noticed Tristan da Cunha in the middle of the South Atlantic and have read about it over the years. It has a population of about 250 and is English speaking. The people's ancestors came from Scotland, England, The Netherlands, the United States and Italy. A small town exists that looks much like an English village. What a different and quixotic life those people must have in the middle of that ocean in their little town?

Rave or Rant for FEMA for looking out for us Georgians.

Is Georgia extremely lucky to have so many Federal Emergency Management Campsites, surrounded by tall security fences?

dichotomy - about Major IT Security Hole

My mistake.
Sometimes I forget, that I don't have a lot of road blocks like others do on the Internet.

The FAQ on the problem http://heartbleed.com/

The current Official Patch.
http://git.openssl.org/gitweb/?p=openssl.git;a=commitdiff;h=96db902

In good OP-SEC conscience I'll hold off listing how to check if a server is safe or not .

At least until a few locals patch their systems.
