Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

SOUTH AUGUSTA IS last again. All of the debris from the ice storm is still sitting in front of houses on Circular Drive and many other streets. West Augusta and areas across the river have had their areas cleaned up two or three times. Who is supposed to be monitoring this?

THANK YOU FOR saying something about Bob Young’s hair. He needs to cut it. He looks unkempt.

OUR NATION IS BROKE – no money for our military, MOX, preserving historic sites, etc. Leave it to our Congress to pass a $1 billion aid package for Ukraine.

RAVE TO KAREN GORDON for stepping forward and creating the ParTEE on the Green downtown after the Greater Augusta Arts Council pulled the plug on the Par-3 After Party. It does not appear Gordon is having trouble finding volunteers to make this a success. Now the arts council wants millions from the next special purpose local option sales tax. Considering the track record with events such as First Friday and the Par-3 party, they should not get one dime from the tax.

A RAVE FOR ALL the Doctors Hospital ER staffers on March 30. The staff, especially Dr. Oester, was fabulous and thorough with treating my mother. Quality, timely service.

YOU CAN BET THAT you have more rants than raves on this column. That should tell you something right there.

RICHMOND COUNTY HAS gone to the dogs. No wonder everybody is moving to Columbia County. And even Columbia County is too close to Richmond County.

RANT TO THE GUY WHO said something about Bob Young’s hair. Leave him alone. At least he can grow some.

HARLEM DOESN’T appreciate their volunteers. You pay your pastors, but you need to take care of your volunteers, too. If you don’t pay them, you should at least have fresh coffee and doughnuts. If you don’t take care of your volunteers, you will have to get paid workers.

BEWARE, TAXPAYERS! When land acquisition personnel come to acquire your land for their projects, record all conversations or you might end up being sued with your own tax money. Be informed; your land will be theirs for a few hundred dollars.

HAVE PRISONERS TEAR down those houses. Why should we have to pay for it? And they should clean the cemeteries, too.

Why have PRISONERS TEAR down those houses?

If fact why PAY anyone to tear them down?

Do like East St Louis did in the 1990's.

They condemned 100's of houses, whole city blocks.
Then charged the FED's, State(s), Police, Fire depts, various Riot units, Tactical assault units, urban warfare, to conduct live burn and fire training and etc...

THEN they bulldozed off the ashes and sold the land.

They made several MILLION off the deals.

Volunteers - We covered this weeks ago

VOLUNTEER defined - A person that does charitable or helpful work without pay.

Note the words "WITHOUT PAY".

However, it is customary to hold a thank you banquet or an award meeting on a annual basis.

BUT (punt intended)
If you are seeking a Reward of some type. You might sign up with one the local Nude Volunteer groups.

However they are picky about whom they select.
Graniteville SC use to have one, and I think AIKEN still does.

Where we need the RCSO doing Traffic enforcement.

Gordon Hwy in front of the Budget Inn. across from Southgate

We were headed out for HOT Krispy Kreame, around 6:30pm according to my Dash Cam, for Glazed Donuts.

When we spotted 2 women, in flip-flops carrying Waffle house take
out, followed by 2 toddlers running behind them trying to keep up.

The 2 women got 3/4's of way across, ahead of the kids before one of them noticed the kids weren't 1/2 way across yet.

Now picture 4 lanes of traffic speeding towards the 2 women and 2 toddlers.

RCSO please do something
It is just a matter of time before a few of these JAY WALKERS end up dead and soon at that.

Worst location we have noted
Gordon Hwy Between Tubman home and Dean Bridge , Hwy 56 between Apple Valley and the RCSO Sub-Station, Daniel Field and Bobby Jones on Wrightsboro and From National Hills to I-20 on Washington roads.

Hair Flow It, Show It...

About Bob Young’s hair what I notice is it turned white in addition to getting longer. And speaking of grey hair TurboTax this year caused me enough trouble to turn my hair grey as Bob Young’s.

HAIR:
Let it fly in the breeze and get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas, in my hair
A home for fleas, a hive for the buzzing bees
A nest for birds, there ain't no words
For the beauty, splendor, the wonder of my hair

It looks like there was a Thursday night massacre with the Richmond County Board of Education. For next year 6 principals were removed from their schools

The Hair Committee?

To those who have made remarks about Bob Young's hair, what's wrong with you? Are you so "perfect" that you think you have the right to judge him? People like you are ones who think they know best about everything....like someone's hair or the clothes they wear. You obviously think you're perfect. I have no use for people like you.
Where is it written that men can't wear long hair? Is it against the law?
Like I said before, Life is short....stop complaining about the length of a man's hair!

2001: A Space Odyssey Theme Playing in Background

Augusta around Masters time makes me feel like that GA Tech student screaming about how great his school is. Green grass, flowers blooming, shorts, golf is comfortable, people coming from everywhere and we all start to take it easy with our jobs, joining in the mood. My God this is Augusta, Georgia and we’re here. Golf courses, the river, Palace Malice and beautiful, polite Southern people. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Appreciate, appreciate, appreciate. We are AUGUSTA, GEORGIA!!!

Prisoners are not allowed to

Prisoners are not allowed to tear down those old houses.

They are full of lead paint and asbestos, and the law changed a few years ago.

The people demolishing them must be certified to do so.

It is also against the law to expose prisoners to hazardous conditions. They are imprisoned for whatever crime they committed, that doesn't mean that they should be exposed to things that can and will kill them years later.

They weren't given the death penalty for their crimes.

Do people deserve to die because they passed a bad check, didn't pay their child support, or got in a fight with somebody?

Dull

Kind of a ho-hum batch of rants today. I'll throw in a re-run from March 27. The ranter submitted:

Why can’t something be done so decent people who chose to live and shop on the south side of town have good and safe places to shop without going to Columbia County where no crime occurs.

Then Riverman got in a zinger!

With the holidays in February we had a rash of overdue books at the libraries. That's something we don't take lightly. One scumbag had 3 books overdue from December. The CCSO mobilized that armored vehicle we got from the feds and drove up in his yard running over a bed of petunias before using the battering ram on the door. The books were found in the house along with two "Do not remove under penalty of law" mattress tags torn off. He will appear before the Hanging Judge, David Roper, in two weeks. No bail has been set for him.

March 27

Good Morning "No Comment Today" America

Mostly RC Raves.

But a Joke, yes.

Two Jewish Men

Two old Jewish men, Sid and Abe, are sitting in a Mexican restaurant one day.

Sid asks Abe,"Do you know if any people of our ancestry were ever born and raised in Mexico ?"

Abe replies, "I don't know, let's ask our waiter."

When the waiter arrives, Abe asks, "Are there any Mexican Jews?"

The waiter says, "I don't know senor, I ask the cooks."

He returns from the kitchen after a few minutes and says, "No senor, the cook say no Mexican Jews."

Abe isn't satisfied and asks, "Are you absolutely sure?"

The waiter, realizing he is dealing with "Gringos" replies, "I check once again, senor," and goes back into the kitchen.

While the waiter is away, Sid says, "I find it hard to believe that there are no Jews in Mexico . Our people are scattered everywhere."

The waiter returns and says, "Senor, the head cook Manuel, he say there is no Mexican Jews."

"Are you certain?" Abe asks again. "I just can't believe there are no Mexican Jews!"

Ready for this.......

"Senor, I ask EVERYONE," replies the exasperated waiter. "All we have is Orange Jews, Grape Jews, Prune Jews, Tomato Jews, and Apple Jews, but no Mexican Jews."

corgi--I have to answer this..

"Do people deserve to die because they passed a bad check, didn't pay their child support, or got in a fight with somebody?"

No, not die but....we all have hazards at work---loss of hearing-bad backs from outside work--finger cramps--I won't even post all the damage a policeman & fireman go through--you get my drift..

They need to work at something & that would be ideal..we bend over backwards for crooks & THAT is a problem in our world today.imo

My childhood home area

SOUTH AUGUSTA IS last again. All of the debris from the ice storm is still sitting in front of houses on Circular Drive and many other streets

To the 1st rant---I wish I could take you back to the days I lived there....fragrant flowers/shrubs--clean, well kept homes--many kids playing in the circle--we had gardens & some chickens too. Our neighbors cared about each other, it was a great place to grow up...I'm sorry you can't see that through my eyes, because it was beautiful.

It could be that way again, & I hope it for the sake of all people in south Augusta, it does...

What a load of hooie. Give them a 15 cent paper mask and a sledge hammer and put them to work. With the number of prisoners we have there ought not be a condemned building, overgrown ditch, or pothole in the county.

Hilarious

The bias against Richmond County in the Augusta Chronicle is getting old and tiresome.. The Chronicle will face the same backlash in the future similar to the Atlanta media after they constantly focused on Cobb/Gwinnett and then had to finally acknowledge the growth in Fulton beginning to move faster.

Every single day a rant/rave is bashing Richmond and praising Columbia County.. Why does the Chronicle want to put the 3rd largest county in terms of population and jobs into the spotlight?

I'm hearing the Grovetown exit will be getting a new Kroger to go alongside the new apartments under construction. How much longer will the media hide the truth? The hype over normal suburban growth is really doing nothing for the entire CSRA.. Where's the high paying jobs or even the large mixed-use development? The CC government already created the outlet mall survey and they weren't able to land the outlet mall. The Grovetown exit is richer compared to the actual city limits of Grovetown and you still only ended up with Kroger, apartments, and probably Home Depot/Lowes in the future.

I agree with you. Another liberal statement from the lady from Charlotte. We should use our prisoners as a work force, not at guests in a hotel. My grandfather was a chain gang guard. That should be brought back. A prisoner should be punished but a good, hard day's work never hurt anyone.

Facts

How is Richmond County losing population if the 2013 estimated population is higher compared to the 2010 official census?

The media and the naysayers don't want the public to know that bit of information and only want them to concentrate on the recent estimate.

Do you know the difference between estimates and the census? Why are you holding up the 'estimates' like their official?

The 'memo' was actually based on the 1 year estimate between 2012-2013 and were in the year 2014. The 1 year estimate had a lost of only 600.. The previous 2 year estimate just showed over 2,000 people moved into the county..

The poster Butterman should work for the Chronicle, because the same bias is portrayed repeatedly.

These are 'estimates' and not the official census.. There's no reason to debate, because anybody can see the brand new subdivisions underway on Gordon Hwy near Fort Gordon. The number of building permits increased from 367 in 2012 to 450 in 2013..

Agree with the rant about the Arts Council….

….I'd go one step further….the DDA is equally guilty of being a "do-nothing" entity that should be either defunded or abolished..

Where do our Mayoral candidates stand on THIS issue?
